Lovely place to walk along from Canal Head near Pocklington. We continued up to Melbourne before heading over to Allerthorpe Common. Work has been undertaken to improve the first section of the walk up to the first bridge with information boards. Once past there the path becomes more rugged. Just can't understand people throwing dog poo bags into the verge rather than carrying them to the nearest bin. Apart from these ignorant people it's a pleasant walk.

Beautiful canal running south of Pocklington. Water is perfectly clear in some stretches, stunning. I go paddleboarding quite often as generally it's quiet. Canal joins the Derwent at its southern end, just near Thorganby. You can walk pretty much the full length I think, seems very popular for a Sunday walk.

I had a great summer walk, really peaceful, with just the sound of the birds for company. This path is lovely, only 5 minutes from pocklington but you feel in the middle of nowhere

Lovely canal walk once you get say a mile from car park? first mile is just dog mess all over the walk? get some more signs up to shame the local dog walker doing this and spoiling their treasure? I saw the same type of dog mess frequently so could be one or two culprits doing the nasty deed hope they get caught...
