Very disappointed is all I can say. Although it is free to visit, there is still an awful lot of work to be done to bring it up to an acceptable standard. Went with friends, one of whom is disabled and we were unable to get into the Visitor Centre as there is no lift and many stairs to the upper floor. However a member of staff took us into a room on the ground floor where we could watch a film on the history of the centre. We then walked around the many buildings, but again, no access to the upper floors - lifts insitu, but all of them not working. The ground is very uneven, with many potholes and trip hazards. Fortunately, the disabled person is able to walk with care. I dread to think how difficult it would have been with a wheelchair. There are no public seating areas or places to have a cuppa. I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone at present. Perhaps it will improve in the not too...

It is mostly a display of mlitary uniforms with limited background on the actual armaments depot. The entire site is a little scruffy - but at least it has been saved from being lost through demolition and the various buildings are being put to new uses. As a person with mobility issues and a Blue Badge, I was pleased to see that there were a few reserved spaces for disbled people, but very disappointed to see that they were mostly taken by staff at the visitor centre. It's only when you lose your mobility that you understand why there are...
Read moreA small yet interesting museum at this former Royal Ordnance Depot. I spent about an hour here and was shown around by local resident and centre volunteer Doreen who actually told me it was her day off too but was more than pleased to talk me through the history of the site and in particular the former Pavilion which is sadly no longer there. There is a small collection of military finds but the information made available easily brings to life the reason the site was established. Free entry/parking, toilet and cafes onsite. Steps to the museum entrance are a little steep so be mindful if you have some...
