Cross Roads Pub — Restaurant in England

Well just arrived back after a meal with friends...firstly we were given the ' celebration menu ' only, which listed 3 courses for £21.95...no one wanted 3 courses... But none of the courses appeared available separately and were not individually priced...we had to ask and make a point of asking for a regular menu with individual courses and prices.

The waitress was friendly ...but actually over friendly and remarking on my wife's accent...yes we came to Northamptonshire from Lichfield nearly 20 years ago and don't consider that we have strong accents... She made quite a point asking where we came from...Flore we said, no where you came from she persisted... which was very embarrassing in front of our friends and actually very personal and quite upsetting...the more I think about the more angry and upset I get about it...

The food was hot and ok but nothing special, on my 15 year old sons adult meal of gammon you could actually count the chips on 2 hands, yes there were so few and the peas are served on a tiny thimble on the plate, about 2 mouth fulls...well what would you expect for £13 or so!!

Been to this place 4 times now in as many years...first time large family gathering, food took forever to arrive and came 2 or 3 meals at at time when then we're probably about 12 of us...no one would start until everyone had food, so first few were cold by that time.

Second time, my lasagne arrived with a massive 8 inch long human hair in it...quite obvious as soon as the plate was put in front of me...obviously turned me right off, rejected it and had a different meal.

Third time, they sat us right by the bar almost able to touch a table of rowdy guys drinking and swearing, aweful.

Today was the final straw and were never...

First time staying here, and the jury is out. The location was great for where I needed to be the next morning, so can't fault that. I guess that was a strong reason to stay. Downside for me was breaking promises. The hotel would not accept my gift card for rooms, as the manager said they were not valid. Greene King, who issue the cards and own the hotel have a different opinion and in fairness, they were very apologetic and amazing customer service. Shame the two extremes of service were experienced at the same time. Given the hotel would not accept their own gift card, I decided not to join them for drinks in the bar during my stay. On check in, I was told breakfast was from 7 until 9. At 08:30, on entering the restaurant, I was informed cooked breakfast was not an option after 08:30. The staff member was great, and offered continental, and even offered this as a free of charge breakfast. I declined after the experience checking in and enjoyed a great cooked breakfast elsewhere. The room was OK. It was tired, but for the price, perfectly acceptable. The standard of cleaning was not great, with dust and cobwebs clearly visible. It is in the countryside. Signage to the rooms could be improved. This place has a lot of potential. On balance, given the excellent response from Greene King customer service, I would give them the benefit of the doubt and next time I am in the area, I'll see how they live up to expectations and if they have someone on check in who knows how to handle their...

Hadn’t been before and decided to try it out, and I’m so glad we did! And very disappointed not to have discovered it sooner! We were greeted by a super friendly member of staff and were waited on by a few different people who were all lovely, smiley and polite and had great knowledge of the menu! We agreed it was the best customer service we’d ever had anywhere. Wish we’d got the name of our main waitress because she was so lovely and so attentive. Atmosphere in the restaurant was also great, lovely vibe. The drinks arrived quickly and so did the food - it was all timed perfectly between our courses so we didn’t feel rushed but we also weren’t waiting around feeling like we’d been forgotten!! The food arrived presented beautifully and was all absolutely incredible, piping hot, fantastic portion size and so delicious, nicest stuff we’ve eaten in ages, certainly our best pub meal ever - and all very reasonably priced considering the quality! I never review things we’ve been to but it was just such a wonderful experience that I couldn’t not! Everything was also very clean and dust free which is always great and sadly not always the case in some places! Already planning another visit soon and it’s going to be our new “go-to” pub when we have friends and family visiting. Thank you so much for such a fantastic time to all the evening team...
