Booked a super car driving experience for my 14 year old son. Booked through Virgin experiences, so of course when I called car chase heroes to book there were loads of additional charges for the better cars, more expensive on specific dates etc. I purposely did not book the accident waiver out of principle as I already felt ripped off and as a 14 year old driver, surely the adult in the car is responsible? Arrived to the Wigan three sisters track on the day. Had to pay £2 to park (of course we did) then stand in a depressingly long queue for a ‘briefing’ (briefing meaning a sales team scaremongering and relentlessly upselling.) I told the sales person I didn’t not intend on paying the £30 accidental waiver however was told that unless I provided a card with a balance of £5000 on it, my son would be unable to drive. So basically the optional accident waiver is not optional at all. They continued to desperately try and upsell as much as they could. When I questioned why there were so many hidden extras, they blamed Virgin experiences and said ‘if you booked directly through us you wouldn’t have this problem. If something seems to good to be true, it usually is’ as if this was somehow my fault. From the ‘briefing’ we then were sent to queue in several disorganised queues with no staff to help or advise. All you can hear throughout the whole race track is the beeping of contactless payments going through as the staff are walking around with mobile card readers. The driving of the car itself was fine. My son seemed to like it but the whole experience lasted no more than 3 minutes. The track isn’t great as you can’t build up speed before having to brake again.. At the end you have to give in your lanyard (or else be charged £80 for accidentally taking it home) however to return the lanyard you have to stand in yet ANOTHER queue where they try to upsell photos and videos. All of this would be made slightly more palatable if the staff were friendly and enthusiastic. However we found them to be rather disinterested with their only priority to sell as much as humanly possible. Do not waste your hard earned money on this...
Read moreHad a great day and was an excellent experience, however felt a little pushed and felt forced to their constant 'upsell' and 'upgrades'.
It started from the briefing room where the girl in her mid 20s knew nothing about the actual day or place, when asked about the track, where to hand in my other papers or where the toilets were her answer was just 'am not sure' or 'i dont know' more of a upgrade attempt rather than a briefing to be honest, she knew exactly how much the upgrades cost £25 for this, £30 for that or are you sure you dont want the damage waver for an extra £45 because someone didnt the other day and he went into a barrier (apparently). Very well trained for that i must say.
We then moved onto the track to have a go in the cars and go around with the cars i chose. Only to get there and find a queue of people waiting there which wasnt an issue, i understand that people have booked and we have to wait our turn. The issue with it was yes the staff trying to upsell along the way, they'll tell you theres quite a queue for such a car how about you upgrade to 'this' car for an extra £30 and you can go straight in.
What i did realise about some of the cars was they were a little old the Lamborghini i went into was no newer than a 2010 model with squeeky doors, engine lights, bulb out warning lights and ruined leather seats.
Finally the last car i went into was a passenger ride (which had an abs light on) when i got into the queue yes you guessed it they were trying to upsell and upgrade for an extra fee.
I didnt spend a penny extra on the upgrades because i felt i didnt need to, i knew what i booked and was looking forward to just that.
As for the damage waver am glad i didnt pay extra coz the track isn't so big (is actually designed for go karting) so cant go that fast to even lose control and there is a instructor to tell you what to do too. I was there a few hours and nobody seemed to lose control or damage any of the cars.
Had a great day and a lasting memory i must say. Have a great day if your...
Read moreFamily booked me a 30th birthday present to go here. Spent most of my time stood around freezing waiting at a gate as it was quite busy, after complaining about being over my time slot that was booked months ago I was quickly dealt with, so I reccomend not doing what I did and practically turn up bare chest thinking there was an induction, overall, helmet etc.
Wrap up warm and have someone who can hold some items for you why you drive.
I drove the Aston Martin V8 Vantage and Aston Martin V12 DB9 and there was a huge difference. I didn't get to pick my cars and I will say the Vantage was a huge disappointment in comparison to what was there, again not the tracks fault, my family chose the cars and its just my opinion that there's better options.
The Aston Martin DB9 on the other hand what an absolute beast that is, constant smiles and pulled like an absolute train. Amazingly fun car to drive albeit a short experience. The instructors were absolutely great, gave me option to go manual or full auto. Due to others being on the track aswell I reccomend auto as you will be to busy watching the road and turning corners to bother with gears when there are so many hazards.
Please note I have no experience of flappy paddles etc so that's why I stayed auto. I scored 90/100 in the vantage and 92/100 on the DB9 for whatever that means or is worth?
The USB and photos are very expensive, I avoided due to price, so be prepared if you are wanting them and take plenty of your own photos etc if you can't afford it. 👍
I don't know what my family spent and I'm not sure I want to. It was very short for what it is but the DB9 made me smile so that's all...
