Purchase JR Reserve on Nov 26, and the website stated I would be receiving a fresh roast from December 15. Instead I received a batch that was roasted on Nov 18, which arrived on Dec 21. When I reached out to customer service, they stated freshness in a seal bag last for 90 days. In 1992, at their Walnut & Vine store I was taught that freshness starts at the moment of roast, and the whole beans would last for three to four weeks before losing its original characteristics. This holds true as you can brew a cup from the moment of roast and see how the flavor changes drastically as the days go on. Customer service also recommended I brew a cup to confirm their statement. Today, I opened, ground my beans, and brewed the coffee only to find the taste was astringent and not typical of JR Reserve. I then conducted a cupping and found 1/3 of the grounds sank to the bottom - an indication of old coffee grounds. For a premium reserve coffee that hold the name of Jim Reynolds this is truly embarrassing for Peet’s coffee. This is the equivalent of purchasing a premium wine from Napa only to have it corked and oxidized. This experience makes me understand how Peet’s standards have truly changed over the years in order to meet the needs of the holding company. I hope Doug Welsh, master roaster, and Rafael Oliveira, CEO, read this post and understand why I am disappointed with this purchase.

Enjoying the location of the Peet’s roasting plant with slight aroma while strolling by. Wish they could actually open the shop. There’re plenty people f SF ling their outings by the Alameda shoreline park here. I would come by the coffee shop here if there’s one opened, not just a sample shop room display ;(
