This place is in the middle of nowhere. A great little slice of earth. It is a small community, it is what it would have been 100 plus years ago. A mining community with great aspirations of making it rich. The cabins as they were from day one. This is located in Girdwood, AK. We spent a hour or two or so walking around enjoying, nature, the river and relaxing. People were prospecting for gold, your not going to strike it rich. It is about enjoying family time with children. .. I didn't see anyone hit rich but did anyone ever, if you could they wouldn't let your mine there. It is geared toward family fun. You can even get married here. I, image it would be a great place to get hitched. LOL... They have a wedding cabin of sorts with an outdoor, alter/church. A great place. An enjoyable place for the entire family. This is what brings family together with lifetime memories. If your in the neighborhood you have to stop.. It is a children based atmosphere with nogistila for the elders. Take minute to look around and see how the mined for gold. I didn't pan for gold. I think ti cost 5 bucks per person. 5 stars.. They are trying real hard to make it worth the trip. Anyone leaving 3 or less stars is a fool in my opinion. ...

We learned how to use the buckets, shovels, sluice, and gold pans from Kate. She was friendly and knowledgeable. She shared with us about the history of the property. It was like stepping back in time and experiencing the gold rush era.
We spent a couple of hours at the river, digging and panning for gold. It was exciting and relaxing at the same time. The scenery was beautiful and the sound of the water was soothing. We did not find any real gold, but we did find some fools gold, which was still pretty cool.
Crow Creek Gold Mine was a great part our trip to Alaska. It was a unique and memorable experience that we will...

That said, panning for gold here is an absolute waste of time, money, and energy. Two of us spent 50 bucks together to spend all our time getting our hands dirty for finding gold whose value would be around 50 cents. We really regret it and wish we'd spent the time seeing all the houses, strolling and relaxing at the creek instead of lugging buckets and shovels around on a relatively hot day.
If you must learn about panning for gold, I suggest watching others doing it or choosing the activity for one person per group.
TL; DR: Don't recommend the mining/any activity here for that matter (just not worth your while). Just pay the entry fee and take a walk at your own pace and enjoy the old houses...
