Westside Antique Marketplace — Local services in Aledo

Today was the worst experience at Westside. I have been a loyal shopper and have spent hundreds of dollars over the past few years there. Up until today it was my families favorite antique shop. My daughter is an avid Breyer collector. We scour all the local antique stores for vintage Breyer models. Today she wanted to go to Westside. I took my teenage daughter and 10 year old son in to see what we could find. From the second we walked in the staff there followed us around. And I mean within 10 feet at all times. We would walk down one aisle and up another and without fail another staff member would be following us. It made my kids and I SO uncomfortable. There was almost nobody in the store and the place is very large, there should have been absolutely no reason for them to be in every adjacent booth the whole time we were there. It was absolutely awful. What made it even worse was at one point a man was following us around very closely. I was legit ready to scream at him if he came any closer to my children. AND THEN… I notice the staff has their phones out “taking pictures.” Like in what world is that okay?! I was shaking in anger by the time we left. It was an absolute awful experience and I wish I had made a scene sooner and left. Now I do understand that most antique stores will come ask to take things you are carrying to the front. Fine. I have no problem with that. However she found her horse in the first 2 minutes we were there and I immediately took it to the front, as well as a toy my son had found. Clearly showing I get their normal protocol. We stopped on our way out to look at an almost $300 print my daughter loved and stood there looking it up on our phones and they walk up on us again. It was horrible. If you’re so worried about theft then invest in cameras and let people shop in peace!!!! The entire joy of going to antique stores is to take your time and browse. I love taking my kids to tell them about things from the past. But today I felt SO rushed and they staff really ruined our entire day. We won’t be back anytime soon. I have been shopping at Westside since it’s beginning - I have always found the workers to be very attentive to their customers - always walking on the floor, always asking if they can assist - eager to empty their customers hands, returning with a basket for the customers use!! A lot of times I have seen the workers tweaking a booth as they walk through the mall…..another point I’d like to share is the updated social media - I often take a look at their social media before heading over to shop at the mall - it’s nice to see all the new items that have been brought in - many times I find something I want to look at when I get there!! It’s great to be able to visit a mall where the customer service ranks very high - it’s rare today that one actually receives great customer service - one of the very reasons I continue to shop at Westside Antique Marketplace in Aledo, Texas!!!
