Allendale IGA — Local services in Allendale

Walked in to buy some supplies. Needed to go to the restroom. The lady at the end of the cash register belt asking me if she could help me because I was standing at the courtesy Booth. I said yes ma'am. Could I please use the restroom. The other gal had told me I needed a key. She told me to go to the counter which I did. When I told her what I needed she said I'm sorry the restroom is out of order with a smirk now. Why would the other employee not know that it's out of order because it probably was not just the way the lady said it was offensive. Predominantly black area. I was probably the only white guy in the store or the only one I saw. Anyway. Now I'm dressed decent. I have a lot of jewelry on and she could tell that I'm not poor or I'm not a homeless. But I think she was making a statement. Reverse prejudice. She knew I was not from the area. Some of the cashier's are young and therefore that may be a reason why they don't know. Half of the time they don't speak to you. Or they are upset and roll their eyes at you because you have a cart full of stuff at check out.The older cashier's will speak and talk to you, with no problem. This was my 1st time going into thus IGA. All of the employees spoke as I came into the store & as I shopped in the store. I needed to know where the gallon jugs of H2O was & 2 of the employees were right there to assist me. The store was clean & bright. I was very impressed!
