Very disappointing experience. Tour started 15 minutes late at 11:15 not 11. The vehicle was not a limo bus as advertised on the website but open-air vehicle in the hot sun (record heat) with a lot of wind going down Highway 29 at 55 miles per hour. No one's hat nor hair could stay in place and it was impossible to hear the guide, Glen. At the winery the bus was parked in the sun so upon return those wearing shorts got burned by the hot seats.
1st winery was small and interesting but we spent way too much time there. The second Winery was terrible. It was nothing but a small Tasting Room strip mall setting. The third winery was a larger more interesting looking venue - V. Sattui - but we were not allowed in because Glen had failed to make reservations there. He claimed this must have been a new policy. I spoke with the people running the winery and they said they were absolutely flooded by people that day and do not take large groups without reservations. When I asked them how long that policy had been in effect they said for quite a few years.
Glen had no plan for the next winery and told one of the tour members to call ahead to another Winery to make reservations. That member rightly became very upset and said that was his job. Then the driver came up and said he knew someone at Sutter Home and we could possibly get in there, but many of the group were not fond of that winery and nixed the idea. Then Glen took us to Behringer and had us go in as individuals and not as a group in order to sneak in.
At this point it was past 5, the time the tour was to have returned. We went to Castillo di Amorosa which was open til 6. That was a nice stop and earned the only star I could give this tour. We returned to Napa at 7pm, 2 hours late. Overall, I thought the operation was very unprofessional. One would be better off using uber or lyft and with more $ in...
Read moreWe were unimpressed with this tour from the start. The tour guide, Abe, thought he was funny and witty, but unfortunately it really ruined our experience.
For starters, the photo on the website shows a cool trolly style bus, but we were picked up in a large greyhound limo bus, which did not provide a great vantage point while traveling through beautiful wine country.
We were stuck in the back row of the bus, which has very narrow, upright seating, and got super hot from the engine bay underneath. Additionally, there was no water or hand sanitizer in the bathroom, so you could not wash your hands or flush. As you can imagine, this made the bathroom smell awfully like stale urine.
To top it off, the entire time, Abe talked about our “chef cooked lunch” which ended up being very average turkey sandwiches, that were packed on the bus the entire time. Needless to say, it was quite the disappointment when were led to believe that we were getting a chef cooked meal.
Some other things that made the experience less than amazing, were no napkins during lunch, not having air conditioning for the first 20 minutes of the trip, and Abe spending 5 minutes bs’ing at each winery, which cut into the already short amount of time we got to spend tasting.
Which brings me to our last gripe... we only got anywhere from 40-60 minutes at each winery for tastings, which made us feel rushed for tasting, and not able to enjoy the grounds at most places.
Unless you can’t find a sober driver, I’d steer clear of...
Read moreOn our visit the one thing we wanted to do was visit Napa Valley and sample different wines and this tour did not disappoint. We went to 4 different wineries and sampled 4-5 wines per winery. The second winery was also a wine and chocolate pairing which was an unexpected surprise. The only thing is that you have to pay for the tastings ($15-25USD), unless you purchase a bottle of wine or two. We were also catered a delicious picnic dinner by our driver, Tom, which was surprisingly delicious. It was served at winery two on a cute picnic table on the grounds of the winery. If you bought a bottle of wine, good time to open one!
Back to our wonderful driver, Tom. He truly made the experience what it was. He was fun, well dressed (that Napa Valley shirt!), educated and attentive. He truly wanted his guests to have a good time. The bus was the perfect size and since the weather was so nice he put the top down which enhanced the experience for me. And he let us put on some good tunes! I even had forgot my jacket and he took time out of his personal day to return it to me.
I highly recommend this tour! Just prepare to pay for the wineries. The wineries we went to were Black Stallion, Napa Cellars, Rutherford Ranch and one more I can’t quite remember the name of (it was the fourth winery and a lot of wine had been consumed at...
