When I was a high school student with a part time job, my cat, Smokey, started urinating around the house. I took her to other vets at first, and they gave her medications that treated the problem only temporarily so the pain and peeing issues always came back. I decided to go to Countryside and saw Dr. Bailey O'Brien.
They didn't have appointment slots left in the day, but still accommodated me by letting me drop Smokey off at the clinic when they opened at 8am and told me that they would see her in between appointments. I informed them that I was in a very troubling financial situation and to inform me if she needed anything more costly than a urinalysis so that I wouldn't be surprised by a huge bill.
Dr. Bailey sent me several voicemail and text updates throughout her work day, keeping me updated on Smokey's status. Smokey ended up needing to stay the night and needing both a urinalysis and a sonogram. When I came in later on, Dr. Bailey had printed out pictures of the cultures and numbers from the tests and spent time to explain what every single picture and number on the papers meant in order to help me understand why Smokey received the diagnosis she got.
I had never had a vet, or even a doctor for humans, be this transparent and in-depth before. She spoke to me in easy to understand terms but never made me feel dumb. I really appreciated being able to understand the reasons why Smokey was sick and why she would need a certain treatment, instead of just being told to spend a bunch of money on medicine that I didn't even know why my cat needed.
Since Dr. Bailey was aware of my financial situation, she gave me 3 different treatment plans at different price points and also explained the pros and cons of each one. However, she never made the cheapest option sound like a bad choice. She said that the cheapest option would just take longer to see improvement and would be more tedious to administer (me having to give my cat pills each day at home rather than a one-time shot done in office), but did not make me feel like a bad owner for choosing it. She understood that I wanted to do the best that I could within my financial means.
She even taught me how to administer a saline IV drip to my cat at home so that I wouldn't have to spend money on office visits regularly to have them do it.
I've been seeing Dr. Bailey for a few years now. I'm a loyal client to her because of this. She's a wonderful and caring vet. Even if she leaves Countryside, I'll follow her to wherever she goes next. I feel lucky to have such an attentive vet here in Andover. She was so accommodating during my time of need during a financial crisis and I'll always remember how she treated me even now when I'm in a much...
Read moreI went to Countryside just to try and get my elderly dog some possible relief with physical therapy. My vet didnt have those services. Marley had been to our vet multiple times for problems within a couple the last couple months. Ultrasounds, a culture and xray had turned up nothing. She was in a lot of pain. Dr. Sherry examined Marley before she could do any physical therapy. She thought something was wrong and that it was worth letting them at least do x-rays, even though we had one within the last 14 days at our vet, but she wanted to get our x-ray from our vet before they did. Eugene did a little massaging and laser therapy for Marley. He also gave us some at home things to do. He could tell I was hurting and said some very kind words that stuck w me, about how he could tell our 14.5 year old pitbull had been well cared for. Dr. Sherry sent us home with more and different pain meds which have helped manage Marley's pain much better. We went back a few days later once they got the xray. Countryside charges about four times what our vet does, but Dr. Sherry explained that's because they do the whole body and they use a radiologist to examine the results, since they are better trained for that. They found tumors in her lungs and spine. Dr. Sherry told us that based on what they saw, we should put her down in the next few days. Marley is going to be put down Wednesday. She has been like my daughter and my best friend. She's seriously the best dog to ever walk this earth. There have been a lot of tears the last few days and more to come. However, I am grateful for their thoroughness, compassion and just knowing. Thank you, Dr. Sherry and Eugene. Our baby and us have had much greater peace these final days with knowing and having better pain management. It means the...
Read moreI apologize in advance but I want to do this place justice and I've taken my animals there for 15ish years maybe?? First time I was in a panic, my horse kicked my 6 mo old puppy Fango in the hip. I don't know why i went to countryside, it's certainly not the closest. I had a feeling. Fango had a broken (?) growth plate. The Dr's removed the entire hip joint. He never had ONE issue for the next 14 years. Well not with his hip! When he was 7 he found a corn cob. Fyi dogs cannot process corn cobs. They removed part of his intestine and the corn cob. (I still have the piece of corn cob!) About 6 years later Fango had suffered from pancratitis and also had cancer. This dog was my soul mate if you believe that kind of thing. He was with me for most of the worst times of my life. Finally we knew it was time. IF YOU READ NOTHING ELSE READ THIS. When I took my best friend in to end his pain they were not professional. They sat with me and cried in a beautifully appointed room designed for this experience. I don't know how long I stayed, a long time. It was so much better than the clinical experience I had been through before. Countryside is a state of the art facility but the reason I will always go there is their understanding and honor of the love and the bond of pets and their people. That would be a good place to stop but you should know I have had the full experience 😄. Puppy (suffers from terminal ADHD 🤨🙄). Mars the cat. Photo taken AT the clinic with his best "of course it's all about me" look! I can't imagine a better place for people who...
