I wanted to go glamping while looking for a short getaway with a friend whom I have not seen in a while. I "found" this while looking around and am so happy I did.|Omaha is only about 3 hours away for me, so it was an easy drive to Ashland. The property texted the day of to find out when we expected to arrive and to text when we got there, but someone came soon after to arrived to welcome us and show us how to work the propane fire pit, the AC, etc.|They provided an aerial map of the place, which was very helpful to find our Queen Dome, but the signs were good as well.|Dome was a new thing for us, and we geeked out about looking through the plastic "portholes" while in bed. Unfortunately, it was an overcast night. Otherwise, we were told, there is good stargazing.|Things to know: there are small houses, geodomes and refurbished silos on the property. Depending on the size of your party, you can pick a place. They are fairly close to each other, so you can even do both domes and meet in the middle to toast marshmallows of grill out.|You can hear hot tub hangouts, although I think there are rules because no one was very loud.|Unexpected extras: the treasure hunt, and the "escape room" on the property. There are trails for short walks or bird watching/listening. even what we surmise is a bird blind.|There is NO TV, and no wifi (that we knew of, but we didnt need it). Coffee maker is regular drip (coffee provided). NO freezer, but small refrigerator (dont bring ice-cream).|Downtown Ashland it only about 10 minutes away. We went to Cellar 426, which was lovely (look for those reviews). Downtown has a couple unexpected places like the Mercantile (housewares), and Fariner Bakery (recommended by someone we met at Cellar 426. Wildlife safari just down the road as was Round the Bend restaurant.|We were only at KCR one night, but would go back again. We did find 1/2 an oreo cookie (no cream) between our towels. I had to text to make sure it was not a treasure hunt item. No big deal--there were ample towels to use, but I did text a picture to management so they did not think we did it.|If you are looking for a non-chain hotel experience without things getting too rustic, please check this place out.|if you are doing a girls group, the bathroom may feel a little small if you have lots of paraphernalia. Otherwise, bring your snacks and your wine (they have wine glasses), your hot dogs and marshmallows (you need your own toasting forks or...
Read moreAlthough we had fun and its a beautiful property, its not worth the price at all. I was really disappointed with all the small details. We stayed at the Homestead and it felt like a major downgrade from normal life vs. an upgrade/"retreat". For starters, the shampoo and soap in the bathroom were these cheap little packets that looked like something you'd get at a shelter. They could really elevate this experience simply by upgrading to custom dispensers & scents. Along with that, the shower was covered in gnats. Typical for a cabin I guess, but not when you're paying alot for it. We got the steak dinner packets and I would not recommend them. It was nice to have them in the fridge ready for us, but you had NO idea beforehand what was included. It would've been nice to know if we should bring sauce for our steak, if we had an allergy to the peppers that were in them, etc. We simply just chose "steak foil dinner" online and hoped for the best. We assumed condiments were included, but they were not. We almost went to town and got something else but didnt want to leave. The breakfast egg bake however was fantastic. But you have to do all the dishes and put them away - which is really off putting when you want to feel like you're on vacation. Now onto the sleeping...the bed, pillows, and covers felt like you were staying over at a friend's house unexpectedly and they grabbed what they could. No hint of luxury or a "retreat" feel. You won't find down comforters or a cozy bed here. Great if you want to feel like you're camping. Not great if you're paying $200+ for a retreat. All in all, the location was stunning and we enjoyed the trails. Just don't come here if you want to...
Read moreWe loved everything about our stay here. It is close to so many things but feels like you are in the middle of nowhere. It is so quiet and serene. We came as a couple, but we saw a few families with kids there, noise was never an issue. It felt very private, like our own cabin in the woods.
We stayed in the Ranch cabin, it was definitely high end camping! Gas fireplace, comfy beds, double sink vanity with a big tiled shower, all the bath towels and beach towels, a mini fridge, toaster oven, wireless charger, and a hot tub and fire pit in the back! The only thing that was missing was a couple porch rocking chairs. I loved that there were no tvs, making you truly unwind, relax, and have fun. They provided a treasure hunt and a scavenger hunt as activities to do around the property. Hint- remember numbers in order on both! We made it through the treasure hunt but couldn't unlock the box because we forgot we were also supposed to be remembering numbers! Both were challenging enough. In the cabin they also provided playing cards and a Hunt a Killer mystery game. As you walk around the property there is also a Kidzone with a super cute playhouse and building area, as well as Pete's Place which has many picnic tables, a bag toss game, and several hook the ring games.
The staff was kind and accommodating and walked us through everything upon arrival.
Location is equidistant between Lincoln and Omaha. Two state parks, wineries, and restaurants are a short drive away. We had such a great time and are looking forward to returning for a winter...
