The staff was so kind and helpful. I dropped off a couple bags of dog food and a large bag of dog treats. And a big box of towels blankets and comforters to help out with the kennels needs. I have never actually visited the facility where the animals are kept. I've been there to drop off rescued animals and to have my dog euthanized previously. Every time I've ever visited the facility everyone is so nice and patient. The reason why I'm only giving 3 stars as my rating is because the facility is very overcrowded and they have outdoor kennels that don't have much protection from the elements. They are doing the best they can by covering the igloos with blankets and comforters and this is awesome! I'm sure the dogs are in the best hands they can be. It just saddens me that so much funding goes to other facilities when Aztec desperately needs more help. I asked if I could volunteer and dog walk. I was told that they are working on the dog walking program, it's just getting started. So they don't actually have dog walkers currently but they do have people volunteering and they're helping with other important things around the Kennels. I totally understand their needs need to be met at all levels I just want to know what I can do to get more volunteers and help at the Aztec animal shelter. Looking at the Farmington animal shelter and La Plata animal shelter they have an overabundance of donations/ Walkers and staff to help out with...
Read moreI picked up a stray cat the other day and when finding him he was injured by the neck. I thought it was possible he’d get better but unfortunately no. I couldn’t take him into a vet because I wouldn’t be able to afford it and I hate seeing cats suffer. My family adopted a dog at this shelter and he’s an amazing pet and they treated us well and I felt comfortable taking him there. Except no, I get there and the lady immediately tells me “cats can roam free.” She didn’t let me explain anything and right away rude. I told her yes I know but he’s injured. Than she gaslights me saying “no he’s not.” And checks him. When filling out paper I wasn’t feeling good just because I know what’s gonna happen, but I don’t like seeing cats suffer and in pain. I let the lady know that and she’s just like “it’s just an infection.” I tell her straight “I’m not a vet how am i supposed to know.” He’s had a bad open wounded and very underweight for a cat. Not all customer are the same and I have bad anxiety so this interaction gave me a panic attack. Please do better with your...
