Rough Ridge — Local services in Banner Elk

I've been hiking this trail for years, especially for sunrise hikes. If you're planning to catch the sunrise, it's about a 20-minute hike to the top. There are two scenic spots along the way, but I recommend going all the way up for the best experience.

The hike itself is not too challenging and offers incredible views. No bathrooms at the trail head. Just a heads up, the sunrise comes up over the ridge, so you won't see it directly on the horizon. We got here at 6 AM and there were three other vehicles. The spots fill up fast throughout the day.

The actual location to the trail is called 📍rough ridge lookout grandfather mountain. It’s about 2.5 miles hike. Worth every step of the way, stunning views, it is pet and children friendly, be prepared for a lot of traffic at the closest access to the site, and hard to find a parking spot, however you can park on the side of the road and there is always people leaving the site.
