There were a few things here that weren't at the other gift shops in the park, but there was a lot of overlap. Prices were fine, about what you'd expect. Although paying $3.25 pre-tax per small cup of (non-organic, I'm pretty sure) black coffee, when we had to serve ourselves, only to get lousy "lawsuit waiting to happen" cups with a lid you have to hold on with two hands, even when you're simply holding the cup, but especially when you're drinking, is just flipping ridiculous... There HAVE to be better eco-friendly options out there besides these obviously "never tested" cups because you can't even simply hold the cup without the lid completely popping off, never mind trying to drink the coffee with the lid on... We would have happily used our travel mugs, except we'd left them back at our campground. It was such a simple thing yet so annoying that the stupid lids popped off & so maddening that they couldn't even be bothered to give us a heads-up; such a simple fix, too! Also, getting really sick of these young women acknowledging my husband's presence, yet completely ignoring me, especially when I am the one shopping & checking out & spending money. Greet your female customers, too. Attempt to appear grateful for our business. Women in my age bracket make most of the spending decisions for our households yet are the most ignored sex/demographic, so yeah. Work harder at being...
Read moreWhy would a mountain have a gift shop at its top, you ask? Well, when you take in account that you can drive to literally the tip top of this Mountain for a "hike" on a paved, ADA accessible path, that is visited by so many people that during sunshine and sunset the road up top becomes a parking lot, it starts to make sense.
This is one of the most visited spots in Acadia (ok maybe not the gift shop, but the top of the mountain), so a gift shop makes sense.
Also the surprisingly clean restrooms, food, bad mountain coffee and food are very very welcome whether you're driving like most people, or hiking any of the four paths up hill.
We hiked up on a sunny, crowded day, and then on a foggy, rainy, empty day to see the contrast, and I love that rain or shine the gift shop is open. Kudos for the people that run that place. Please stop, buy something and be...
Read moreI arrived at 10:00 am after hiking the south ridge trail. Both tanks of the dual coffee brewer were empty and the clerk was at the register doing nothing. I turned to him and I said, "both coffee tanks are empty." He continued to stare straight ahead, so I said "excuse me." With that he turned and said it will be ready in a few minutes. I went back to the machine and stood there. After a moment I noticed it was not brewing. I walk back over to the clerk and I said "do you mean literally a few minutes or will it be a while." Before I could finish he turned and snapped at me "I said a few minutes." with that he came out from behind the counter and snatched the filter basket out of the machine and stormed out of the gift shop. There were no customers at or near the register during...
