My family and I have been fishing with the owner of Sitka Point Lodge for 18 years now. In those 18 years we have brought up over 60 folks with us and at least 90% of those have returned on their own because they had such a great time. We go not only for the fishing but great food and people who wotk at the lodge. This year we probably had out slowest fishing of the year but with 50 MPH winds and 16 foot sea's what can you do ? We have fished with both Captains. Mike and Eli over the years and both are excellent at what they do. They go literally the extra mile to try and get you on the fish. This year even in the horrible weather we covered over 150 miles in one day trying to find the fish. In years past I would say limits are the norm with Sitka Point's Charter Captain's. Unfortunately they can't control the weather but they absolutely do what they can to find you the fish and make sure you have a safe and fun experience. I read a previous review where someone was unhappy about not catching a lot of fish as they have in the past. Sheesh, that's the way it goes sometimes! 18 years and only one poor fishing trip, I would say that is pretty great odds you will do well. The day we left the wind died down to 20 mph and the fish showed up and Mike,Eli and Brian all had limit's of King's and Halibut. We still had a great trip and the 3 friends we brought from WI who had never fished Alaska had a ball as well. If you want a great experience got to Sitka Point Charter's, they...
Read moreOur group stayed at the Sitka Point Lodge for the first time from 8/14/17 through 8/19/17. Our party consisted of 5 friends some of whom have been going to Sitka for fishing expeditions for 10 plus years. This was my third trip to Sitka. We stayed in the cabin next to the lodge and found it very comfortable and had everything we needed except drinking glasses, which we had to obtain daily from the main lodge, and not enough hooks to hang our slickers on when we returned from fishing. Dave, the lodge's chef, prepared excellent meals daily and his sauces were some of the best I have had. The reason for only a two star rating was our disappointing fishing experience. Some of our group have been fishing annually at Sitka for more than 10 years, this being my third trip. We come for the fishing and had the worst catch our group has ever had. Our captain, Mike, seemed to be content with just going to a spot or two he had marked, anchoring, and hoping the fish would swim to the boat rather than moving to other spots when the fish were not biting. Our group goes to Alaska to fish and not wait and hope the fish come to the boat. As a result, we went home with 1/3 less fish than we normally catch. We were expecting excellent fishing as in our previous Sitka fishing trips and did not...
Read moreWe are considering another Alaska fishing trip but it will not be to Sitka Point Lodge. Two years ago 2022 upon arrival we were told that our group (5 of us) was to be the last group out that season and it seemed things were already winding down. The fishing was decent but on the boat the deckhands derogatory comments sometimes directed at the captain and at times at one of members of my party did at times make us feel uncomfortable. The accommodations and showers were satifactory. The meals, breakfast and dinner, were fine except for one morning the cook didn't even show up to prepare breakfast for us before we went out to the boats. We all took home what seemed to be plenty of fish but the care taken to fillet and package was terrible. Not a single salmon fillet, which made up the bulk of what went home with us, was clean of bones in fact the worst I have seen and seemed almost intentional. I have done trips like this multiple times to multiple locationsbringing home a lot of fish and this was just terrible. Many of the packages were also not properly sealed and had to be...
