Slander: making a false spoken statement damaging to a person's reputation. I visited this location when I was passing through the area. The Manager, who has never seen me before and obviously does not know me decided to call me "sketchy" in front of a line of 8-10 people. Why? Because I questioned why my $5 off coupon did not work from the Dollar General app. after I spent $28.54. I had asked the cashier at the beginning of the transaction if my phone number registered in their system after I input it into the keypad (I had recented updated my new cell number the app and didn't know if it recognized my old or new phone number.) The cashier told me it took my number and applied the discount. After the transaction completed, I looked at the receipt and it was apparent that it had not applied my number or discounts. I questioned it. The cashier told me the app was at fault. The cashier was very polite during the entire exchange. I asked what I could do when the Manager stormed over and aggressively asked me what my problem was. I explained the situation. I told the Manager that I had changed my phone number when I got a new phone and updated the info on the app. She then proceeded to belittle me in front of the crowd of people and call me a "sketchy" person for having two numbers, and I was "only allowed to have one number." I told her I didn't have two numbers, I changed my phone number. The Manager was very angry and continued to argue as though it is inconceivable that people do not ever change their phone numbers. Other customer heard her comments as she yelled at me and several turned around and began talking about the scene she was making. I did not know this woman or understand the personal attack, but I was also not going to tolerate someone treating me in a manner that is extremely unprofessional. I told her I would simply return my items. I refused to raise my voice or be baited into a confrontation and simply indicated that I would like to return my items. The Manager told me I could go to the back of the line and wait until everyone else was finished. I complied with this without comment or complaint. To me the items were inconsequential, but treating me with disrespect and calling me "sketchy" as though I was a criminal over a $5 coupon on an app was absolutely out of line for a corporate employee. When it was my turn to return my merchandise, the Manager again decided to continue to call me "sketchy," and I asked the Manager to please just do the return. I told her that her unprofessional behavior was unacceptable and accounted to slander was not going to be tolerated. She then attempted to backtrack her statements that my behavior in changing my phone number was "sketchy." She was so aggressive that she slammed around my returns (which included two glass cups) and they clanged loudly. This should all be on the store video. She then told me to get out of her store and never come back. I made a formal complaint to Corporate and requested they pull their cameras from the interaction. Corporate also has access to my account info to verify my user information to check my phone number. Before I wrote this review, I wanted to see if anyone else had similar issues. If you google "Dollar General Complaints," you will find, as I was made aware, complaints of poor staff behavior, cleanliness issues, false advertising and difficulties with returns. There are also other instances of this similar situation happening with their coupons. The BBB has received complaints and Dollar General is infamous for "rubber-stamping" responses from "GM." There are obviously rude customers but this is definitely not the case in this situation. I have been to many other Dollar Generals and had good experiences, but not this location and...
Read moreFirst, I would like to point out that the manager posted a review on here which is a conflict of interest to boost the store ratings. Bottom line, the store is clean because it is a newer store. The problem I have with this location is the rudeness. I worked in a restaurant while going to college and earning my bachelor degrees, so I engaged with the public. I also had my own company and had to deal with the public, who were my customers. While everyone knows that the world is filled with different people and different attitudes, I belive that when you are in a position to earn your living serving customers in what ever capacity, you must have basic "people skills." The lack of "people skills" will ruin any business. I will never shop at this location the level of rudeness is...
