The falls are magnificent if you can get to them. Google will not get you there. Go to the ski resort and use that as a base. If you park in the gravel lot by the ski resort, just walk back up the Blackjack road and you will see the path on the right side of the road. We were told by people coming out of the trail it was sketchy. Sketchy means you need waterproof footwear and a tolerance for mud. Unfortunately we did not have the waterproof footwear as this was kind of a last minute decision/ Once we hit the deep mud, we had to turn around. We then went up the hill on the road and you will see iron fencing on the right side with a delaoidated building there. This is the parking spot. The trail is on the left side with a ull off big enough for 1 or 2 cars. The walk in is short, but the view from the top of the waterfall is great. We were there shortly after rain, so we weren't comfortable climbing far out on the slippery rocks. Still it was beautiful and with the rain the river was running at a good pace so the falls looked very powerful. Well worth the trip. We will go back with hiking boots to see it...
Read moreSuper beautiful, but also super unsafe. This gem of a waterfall is a bit hard to find. Google Maps takes you to a gravel area where you can park. We ended up driving down the ski resort road to the other side of the river and parking next to the falls. We couldn't find the hiking trail to them any other way. This waterfall doesn't have the typical blocked off to keep you safe viewing area. You can literally plummet to your death very easily. That being said, it is my favorite waterfall we've visited. Be safe!
Update July 2020: construction is being done on the bridge going to the ski resort. We followed the detour road and drove down the mountain to the upper falls location. We were the only visitors this time, and it was still beautiful in the summer as it was...
Read moreThese falls are quite gorgeous and are very easy to find. The Google directions will almost get you there properly, but you're better off putting in the Gabbro Falls trailhead and going from there. You can also turn down Baker Blackjack road and cross the bridge and go that way. You can take the next road heading west from Baker Blackjack, but it's easier and shorter to go this way. There are multiple no trespassing signs if you try to approach directly from Baker Blackjack. Just cross the bridge, and go up the hill slightly until you see either colored sign (red and blue) for the falls. You'll be able to hear them easily, too!
