Dollar General — Local services in Birmingham

I shop here, 3 to 5 times a week, so i know this place and it's people.

The store has upgraded and has much more vegetables and frozen foods and focuses less on clothing (thankfully).

Problems with this store are mostly on the "outside": There's a pot-hole (at the corner of the entrance, on the right) as you are coming in that's been there for YEARS and needs fixing. The company has let 3 of the 4 external lights die out.

This new manager they have now. Tall fellow, nice, and he ALWAYS takes care of me and unlike other managers, i see him running the registers (to help take on the load at the check-out stand) and THAT tells me this man cares.

This is a good store (and i've been in ALL of them in the surrounding areas) compared to most. I've seen a lot of "whiner" feedback, slamming this store, but these are coming from people who seem to complain about a lot of everything.

The store has fruits, vegetables, spirits, cigarettes, a large selection of frozen foods (compared to other stores), canned goods, pet food/toys, an "As Seen on TV" section, some clothing, toys, a good selection of snacks and candies, household goods/plastics, hygiene supplies, movies, vitamins/supplements, and more than i've mentioned.

It takes this store a little while to get a "good" staff. Once they settle in, you get them for about almost a year then someone new gets hired.

Given a fair chance (and an logically honest point of view) you will see it's a good store. Every store has their lines, their frustrated employees, and their occasional outburst (from customers)...and this staff generally handles it pretty well considering the locals.

I like this store and, if the things i suggested, were fixed then the place would be all the better. Oh, and the store has nice/clean bathrooms and (when the mother company fixes the problems with them) they're open...

Terrible service these employees do not care about customers the little manager sat in the office while the cashier guy couldn’t understand anything anybody was asking him, he only knew how to check people out. She came out because someone ask where’s the manager you can’t be only person working. The store looks a mess it needs to be properly recovered/fronted and stocked. I understand being short staffed but this store has to do better. I know the young female manager is not the store manager she needs to work on her customer service Fantasia is her name I guess that’s what’s on the receipt. Do better...

I went into Family Dollar on Carson Rd to by Hot Dogs Buns. I walked into the store and there was only five loaves of bread no Hot Dog or Hamburger Buns. I quickly called my husband and said from now on I'm shopping at Dollar General. I walked in to the newly renovated grocery area where you can buy grapes and bell peppers. This store has all you need for a quick meal and it's perfect for all mothers of small children. My Husband loves shopping here and together we will be back. 😍😍😁😁.
