The tree in this shot is not the famous Methuselah but it is another ancient bristle cone pine from the same location in the White Mountains. We took this shot with a group of perhaps 4 other like-minded photographers in August 2022. I had no idea that the eye of the milky way was out or that it was positioned directly behind my subject but heck, I'll take it! An absolutely incredible place. The drive is not for the faint-hearted but the views are magnificent and the opportunity to walk among some of the oldest living beings on the planet is truly amazing. The air is noticeably thinner at this elevation so be cautious if you have health issues. If given the chance I would 100% return and spend more time with the ancients.

Methuselah Tree is not tagged on the 4 mile trail, you will walk for about 2-3 hours in search of the oldest tree in the world--tho you will see tons of ancient trees, you won't know which one is actually the oldest.

Really awe inspiring. The drive up leads to some fantastic views of the Eastern Sierra. The road to the visitor center and Grove is quite doable in passenger cars and is pretty twisty, so be warned. I think a higher clearance vehicle with off road tires is more appropriate if you want to go further to the Patriarch's Grove. The trees themselves are magnificent. The Methuselah tree is not identified because the occasional lowlife would come up and vandalize the trees. No respect for some of the oldest living things on Earth. Quiet, and magnificent. Hard to explain, but the entire place...

It was beautiful but a hike at 10k above sea level for a Floridian is hardcore lol. Also, if you have a good SUV with decently high clearance and good tires, MAKE the drive to Patriarchs Grove. It was totally worth it. (Go early, like 6am, you’ll beat the insane sun) I got there at 5am and left at 2pm. Bring lots of water and snacks. You’ll need it. (Plus sunblock...
