I’ve shopped at this Salvation Army for years, but after my recent experience, I can’t in good faith recommend this location to others—at least not until they put real safety policies in place.

This store allows day laborers to operate inside, offering moving services to customers with no vetting, no background checks, and no oversight. They’re not employees, yet they are regularly recommended to shoppers. That’s how I ended up hiring one of them, which led to an incredibly uncomfortable and unsafe situation.

After I reported this individual’s behavior, Salvation Army initially banned him. But then, they lifted that ban without informing me—which meant I unknowingly walked right back into a dangerous situation I had tried to avoid. When I raised concerns about this, I was essentially told that it was my word against his.

That’s the part that frustrates me the most. This should have never been a “he said, she said” situation. If proper vetting and accountability measures were in place, this wouldn’t have been left up to interpretation. No customer should ever have to fight this hard to be heard, especially when it comes to basic safety.

To their credit, they eventually banned him indefinitely—but only after things escalated way beyond what they ever should have. I’m sharing this so other customers are aware and so management understands that this is a policy issue, not just an isolated incident. If they’re going to allow day laborers to operate inside, they need to have real safeguards in place to prevent situations like this from happening again.

Update, management never followed through on their gig worker sexually harassing me.

The man’s name is Mike Hall - steer clear of him at all cost. He drives a really old blue moving van.

This isn’t slander because I have literal and figurative...

I have never visited this store, this review is solely for their pick up services. On 8/2/18 I scheduled a pick up for 8/20/18 online. 4 bags of clothes and tall dresser and night stand. Indicated that the furniture was on the 2nd floor of my Townhouse. I received a (do not reply) confirmation email with no number to call or additional information. 8/20 happened to be the first day of school and as I was pulling away from my house to drop my daughter off at 7:30am they pull up behind me. No courtesy call to say they were on their way or anything. Told them I would call back and reschedule.

Here's why they get 1 star. The rep on the other end was very nice and helpful, but told me that the drivers called him at 9am saying that there was no furniture outside, and that the customer canceled. I clearly indicated in the online form that items would NOT be left outside because #1 I'm expecting and can't lift/move anything and #2 it isn't allowed in my townhouse community. At that point rescheduling wasn't an option because they gave me another far out date, I will just have to pay someone to remove the items and donate the clothes locally in a designated drop off box. The gentleman on the phone did say that I was suppose to call the day before and it's actually better to call and schedule a pick up than doing it online because the system "acts funny". well what's the point of having that as an option then?? They need to do better. Will be posting this same review on other...

The manager at this location is racist. I was there yesterday.saw an office massage chair for 39.99, I tested it with the help of an employee and was amazed at the quality. I detached the section of the price tag and took it to the cashier to pay but he asked we to join the queue. Since I couldn’t move around with it, I kept it in front of him, letting him know I’m going to pay with my other stuff that were in the shopping cart. I went around looking for more stuff and suddenly realized a white lady was going of the store with my chair. I stopped her, showed her my ticket and told her it’s mine, she refused to listen. As we were deliberating, the store manager intervened and I explained to him everything. He asked for our tickets to compare it with the other portion of tag on the chair, he realized mine was a match and the lady’s number didn’t match. Shockingly, he told me none of his employees have that signature. he said I should follow him to check his suvelian camera , while we were going to check the camera , the lady walked out of the door with the chair, I told him but he ignored me. We went ahead and checked the camera, when he came back, he said he needed more time to look at the camera. But at same time offer to give me store credit, I refused and walked away because I believe he was being biased and I was not treated well....

I donated some furniture through the Salvation Army's pickup program. I am certain that I was scammed in order to get a valuable vintage 4-piece Franklin Shockey bedroom set, which then disappeared from the Salvation Army truck. I'm sure somebody made money off of my donation, but apparently it never made it to the SA Family Store. A very painful learning experience for me. I now donate to Habitat for Humanity's ReStore, and never again to the Salvation Army Hyattsville Donation Center. Philanthropists beware! UPDATE: I’m afraid your purely marketing response to my complaint convinces me that my review is accurate. I am a trusting individual by nature, until I find enough evidence of wrongdoing that convinces me that an individual or organization is not trustworthy. Your clear assumption that my review was erroneous leads me to conclude that the organization will do nothing to investigate and correct any wrongdoing. I stand by my review.

This company sales your donated product for top dollar! I called to donate my like new dresser that has a small scratch on it. They tell me that they cannot take it. Seriously, it's a thrift store for God sake not a new furniture store. The furniture was hardly used. It's bad enough that I don't shop there because it's too expensive but then I try to donate and you want the furniture to be perfect. I really hope this store goes out of business soon!
