Normandale Community College is the worst college experience I ever had at this school I attended the school last year in 2019 spring I was approved for financial aid I knew I had student loans in default before I even decided to attend Normandale the communication is horrible at the school between the dean's the financial aid and teachers when I signed up for fall classes I had to redo my financial aid which is call FASFA when I got my award letter it stated that I needed to Show documentation that I had my loan paid off at a previous college that I attended which was paid off when I spoke to the people in financial aid they said they made a mistake and approve my financial aid for spring semester when I wasn't supposed to receive financial aid due to me having loans in default I already use my financial aid for spring to pay for my books and classes my grant did not cover my whole tuition so I had to take out additional loan. The financial aid supervisor stated that they made the mistake and now they had to take my financial aid away after I use my financial aid for spring semester so now do to them taken away my financial aid I had to pay for tuition out of pocket that I cannot afford they only waived a thousand something dollars now they're holding me responsible to pay the rest back now it's a hold on my record at Normandale and I can't get my transcripts to transfer to a different school that I'm trying to attend now to further my education I spoke with multiple people at the college and they've been extremely rude to me and not helpful at all I even spoke to the dean and he's not even trying to be helpful his name is Jason it's really stressful when you're ahold accountable for something that's not even your fault and all you want to do is get your college degree but it's holding you back over school that made a mistake is having a huge impact on your life and putting you more in debt I give this college 0 stars P.S the professor who teaches the introduction of chemistry that I had was horrible the first exam half the class failed I withdrawn from that class because I wasn't going to pass please go to rate professor before signing...
Read moreIn-depth, honest review of Normandale.
I hated it at first. I took it all online once, and it was a fever dream. In person classes can be a bit more engaging. However, many professors have been there for a millennial and solidified their skills to teach students valuable skills. I came into Normandale with a lower than average GPA from high school, and I left gaining more knowledge than I possibly ever could have. You might hate Normandale if you only go for classes and do nothing else. I found a group of friends that I met at The Zone, and I have been with them ever since. Made the Normandale experience much better. Joined PTK, helped officers with their work, volunteered to help the program board with a talent show a tiny bit, and even did the spring fling. Graudation was at an orchestra hall, which was an incredible moment being at the very front of everyone, looking directly at the podium. Additionally, their student services are wonderful. Good staff security, they even moved my lost and found items to a safe spot so I could retrieve them. They have a cupboard that gives free food for students in need. Normandale is just the perfect CC that, honestly, rivals universities in quality. Their Japanese garden during the late spring and summertime is underrated. Additionally, Normandale is set up in a very lovely area. Surrounded by good neighborhoods, places to eat, and places to walk to. Parking is always available. Masterfully created the correct amount of parking needed.
Professors: hit or miss (usually very good)
Quality of Education: Good
Activities and Events: Great
Atmosphere: Perfect
Student Assistance and Help: Perfect
Advisors: Perfect
Feels like a better version of high school: pretty much.
Wouldn't have been able to transfer to the UMN TC without Normandale.
Recommendations for students, especially those straight out of high school: do extracurricular activities, MAKE FRIENDS, connect with professors, explore the school, and attend plays. It's so chill (unless you are a STEM student; i dont know what you guys all do). Guys, you'll...
Read moreI completed my generals at Normandale C.C. before transferring to the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota to finish my undergraduate education. I started at Normandale as a Post-Secondary Options student in high school, so I graduated high school with nearly a year-and-a-half of college completed. This afforded me to graduate at 22 with a double major in business. I was very happy as a student at Normandale C.C. and got very involved in a whole host of activities from being an Orientation Leader to the Peer Mentor Program to tutoring several subjects and being a note-taker for students with disabilities. Some of the best professors I ever had were at Normandale - many have since retired, but some of those I had are still around, such as Professor Mike Wartman in Communications. Yet, I know that the caliber of teaching has remained the same high quality. I have an uncle, Professor Bob Wellington, that started teaching there well after I left, and he is a truly gifted teacher and patient person aside from being exceptionally smart and even holding a patent on an exclusive satellite imagining technology (he is just the type of person you want to have as a math or physics teacher - someone with real-world experience to ground the knowledge). Know that if you are transferring to the Carlson School of Management, that they have a quota of students they will accept from community colleges as transfer students. It used to be two a semester and today it may only be one a semester. Therefore, you will have to be an exceptional student to pave your way to the Carlson School of Management or any other like school of excellence, but then Normandale C. C. makes excellence entirely possible for everyone. Highly...
