If you’re in Borger, Texas, looking for a place to eat that isn’t a sad drive-thru or a gas station burrito, Texas Rose is hands-down your best bet. This spot has that old-west-meets-modern-cabin aesthetic—polished wood everywhere, stuffed mounts glaring at you from every direction like you just wandered into a saloon showdown. It’s got character, it’s got charm, and it’s got plenty of seating. Just don’t expect to saddle up at the bar for a stiff drink—this place doesn’t serve liquor.
The Service
The waitstaff was on top of things—a little too on top, actually. Our server must’ve had some kind of internal timer because every time I took a bite, they’d pop up like a prairie dog asking how things were. Some people might like that level of attention, but I was just trying to enjoy my meal without feeling like I was being watched by the restaurant equivalent of the Secret Service.
The Food
Steak
Good, not great. A little on the thin side and could’ve used a bit more punch in the flavor department. Come on, we’re in cattle country—I expected a thick, juicy, butter-basted beast, not a steak that looked like it came off the "diet" section of the menu. That being said, my buddy got the same thing and swore it was amazing, so maybe I just caught mine on an off night. Would I order it again? Probably. But I’d be crossing my fingers for a little more oomph.
Prime Rib
Now, this was a solid choice. Not the best prime rib I’ve ever had, but definitely a respectable cut—tender, flavorful, and cooked right. If you’re debating between steak and prime rib, I’d lean towards the latter.
Seafood Sampler
Decent, but let’s be real—I’m from South Texas, right off the Gulf, where seafood is practically a religion. So my expectations were somewhere in the stratosphere, and Borger is not known for its fresh catch. That said, the catfish was solid—crispy and flavorful. The coconut shrimp? Pretty good. But the portions were on the light side. I’m used to seafood places loading me up with two or three fat fillets, not one thin one that looked like it needed backup.
The Rolls (AKA The Real MVP)
🔥🔥🔥 Forget everything else—these hot, fresh, buttery-soft rolls were the highlight. They just kept coming. If I could rate Texas Rose on rolls alone, we’d be talking Michelin-star levels. I’d go back just to carb-load on those bad boys.
The Vibe
They’ve got a nice bar area, different seating sections, and plenty of space for big groups—so whether you’re with family, friends, or a whole crew of hungry Texans, they got you covered. The ambiance nails that rustic but modern feel without looking like a Cracker Barrel knockoff. Just don’t expect to chase your steak with a whiskey—this place is booze-free.
Final Verdict
Texas Rose is the best place to eat in Borger—no contest. The atmosphere is on point, the service is eager (maybe a little too eager), and while the food could use some oomph in the steak and seafood department, it’s still a solid spot. But those rolls, man… those rolls alone are worth the trip.
🔹 Would I go back? Yep. 🔹 Would I order a thicker steak if they had one? Absolutely. 🔹 Would I eat an embarrassing amount of those hot rolls again? You better believe it.

Read moreDue to they do not have any competition in Borger, they are the #1 place to go to for variety items and Steak. However, I personally preferred Bennigan's over this place for food, price and friendly staff. We had Ribeyes. We had to send them back 2x. I understand 1x but 2 is not acceptable. My steak was dropped on floor on the second trip, so I got a new steak cooked correctly on the 3rd round, but by 5he time I got it; everyone at table was finished eating. I was not offered an appetizer while having to wait for my steak longer than others at table. When we got to register to pay, we were asked "How was it" by an older white lady that acts as though she owns the place. We told her that our waitress was kind and good was okay although we had issues. She said ok. I asked if her if she would like to know the issues to fix for future, and she said ok. But proceeded to talking with others staff at counter, while half listening to me. Once I was done, I was told; "We have no reason to offer you a free appetizer while waiting for your steak to be cooked again." At this point, I realized that it was useless speaking to her and why did she bother to ask if it was ok, if she didn't care? We tipped our waitress generously for having to work with people like the cashier, we could only sympathize what a shift would be like working with her. I would not recommend this place. Go to Bennigan's, save money, good choice of menu items and amazing staff. Just because your restaurant has been in business for years, due to no competition, does not make it right to ask entitled. Remember, this is a poor small town, you are making your money off the guys working at those plants, and they sure do talk to...
Read moreMe and my girlfriend went here on December 14 around 7pm. I also had to bring my Service Dog which he is prescribed to me by my psychiatrist. The staff was great and understanding the food was good. Everything was going great till I had to use the latrine. On my way back to my table a man walked the main door and started looking at me and my service dog I thought nothing of it he looked like a normal person. The then stopped me and asked what the dog was for I told him he prescribed to me by my psychiatrist(I REALLY hope this spell check is working). He then told they don't usually allow dogs I then had to ask if he was the owner he told yes he was. I told he is a service dog and by the ADA he goes where I go. After that i went back to my table and enjoyed my and just a little mad because that was the first time I've been stopped and had to explain my service. I've had him for a month and I've taken him every where in Amarillo and never ever had any problems until I took him to Borger to eat. Still a great place, Great environment, great food, and a...
