UPDATE: I shopped here again on Monday, April 7, 2025. Good news - the ScanIt devices were working.
Great news - the store is not crowded on a Monday afternoon.
Not so good news - only one of the four electronic scales in the Produce and Deli sections was working. Two were out of paper - with one showing a video of how to change it, and the other one froze after weighing a single item. I even rebooted it (unplugged) to see if that would get it working, but it did not.
Parking Warning: When you park, remember what aisle you are in; otherwise, when you walk down an aisle and it's not the right one, there are no openings in the grassy medians between the aisles to allow you to cross over to another one. You'll be required to walk back to the store entrance and find your correct aisle.
ORIGINAL POST: This is specifically about the new Giant in the Southlake shopping center. I was there on Saturday, 03/29, and it publicly opened on Friday, 03/28/25.
I hope the new manager reads this because it is a beautiful store, and there were lots of associates everywhere to help and plenty of open checkout lanes with no waiting. The store is laid out well with the frozen, refrigerated, and dairy at the very end of the store. They also had plenty of paper copies of a store directory to help find what I needed. The aisles are very wide, and the store has many amenities, such as a Starbucks and a Ledo Pizza. The produce looked beautiful (see attached picture with sprayers in action), and I even heard a manager telling a stockman to not put out strawberries that did not live up to their standards.
Let's hope the store stays this way!
My big complaint - the ScanIt devices were not working, nor was the ScanIt phone app. I tried scanning my key tag, I tried keying in my phone number, and I tried keying in my Giant tag #. Nothing worked, much to my disappointment. Thank God there was no waiting at the manned checkout lanes.
Overall, it was a good first experience, and I will be checking back often to see if the ScanIt's are working.
There's plenty of parking, but I worry about the traffic when the other businesses open that...
ย ย ย Read more๐๐ฝ Bowie Country Counsel, City Counsel and Giant executives. I, we, have been duked again into believing economic development will improve the County in various ways. So far I have seen just the opposite. For one, what kind of traffic pattern did developers create for Giant shoppers? Secondly, I attended the grand opening and they were associates everywhere for weeks. At least four or five cashiers were willing to assist the customers check out. Now you're lucky, if you can find one especially doing peak hours (before work and after work).Since several complaints to the front end staff and the GM Debbie I am compelled to expose the economic development lie. I visited this Giant 2 days ago and I was very disappointed with the service. There was one cashier and two associates (talking up a storm) at self-checkout, approximately 30 customs attempting to check out. I wanted to leave my full cart behind and exit the store and the only thing that prevented me from doing that was necessities for my aging father. How is it the front end manager don't know what to do in these situations? Her excuses has been someone called out, ok Mrs. Front end manager. Why can't she call other associates to see if they're available to come into work if someone has called out? That is common sense why is it that she doesn't care nor does Giant about its customers. My advice to the elected officials is to go check on the progress of this great economic development propaganda that you feed into our brains every election cycle. Remember we're going to create so many jobs! What a...
ย ย ย Read moreNice selection of items and clean. The self checkout wasn't the best. It shows you some discounts but others don't apply until you are ready to pay on last screen so I was confused. I wanted the deal, so I hit the button for help but the lady stationed there didn't come over at all. The sign is just blinking and blinking. Eventually I go over to get her and she does whatever on the screen and didn't tell us what happened. I just happened to see her progress through the self-checkout (which she could have explained but she didn't seem to want to be there). After she finished.. the remaining discounts finally fell off. I'm an avid wegmans and costco shopper. I haven't been to giant in over a decade. I'm here trying to give giant a chance..but I don't experience this lack of customer service in the other super markets. Also, my first shopping experience there... one of the workers came behind me to shuffle around the sandwiches. Seemed unnecessary and she wasn't restocking anything. Just weird behavior. So I'm not sure if I want to give this place a third chance. I can stay at wegmans and costco. I just wanted to try somewhere new, but to be honest the staff here makes me feel uncomfortable. Some need additional customer service training in my...
