Can't speak to the figure skating experience but for hockey the positives begin and end with it being a functional rink. Well I mean the ice doesn't freeze for 20 minutes after the zamboni gets off because the indoor temperature is kept at 75 degrees causing the puck to get stuck for the entire 1st period but aside from that it works. I could go into extreme detail about the various faults of the rink; tiny locker rooms, disgusting showers, doors to the bench and ice not being properly installed so they barely close, it being warmer on the ice than in the stands, the general lack of any improvements in the twenty years I've had the pleasure of skating here, but I'll skip all that because there's a pretty good anecdote that summarizes my feelings. About a year ago someone wrote "#FixTheRink" on the home bench of rink 1, and in the following year they couldn't even be bothered to...
Read moreOur family visited the rink for the first time as part of the Learn to Skate program. Our daughter was very apprehensive about class and skating on her own (she’s 4 years old) and our first class was a tough experience. I couldn’t speak more highly of the instructors and everyone involved with the program. They were very aware of our situation and helped our daughter fall in love with skating. We have a newfound family-favorite in Nashoba Valley Olympia and hope to make many memories in the...
Read moreJust went public skating here on Thursday morning at 11:15. Seemed ok until a group of Yoga figure skaters showed up around 11:30. About 10 women and an instructor took over about half the ice with their spins and dances. Not really fair for the remaining dozen or so patrons just trying to skate around for fun. You needed to dodge them every time you skated around. They should have their own ice time and not overlap with general public skating really for safety sake at least. I mentioned this to the women in the office where you pay admission going in. Just got a sorry....
