My husband and I have nothing but positive things to say about Gracie Barra in Ashburn! We enrolled our son, who is almost four, a few months ago and it's been a great experience. Professor Dana is incredible - she warned us that kids can sometimes struggle with the discipline / structure / new environment when they start. Our son seemed comfortable and visibly enjoyed his first few classes. Then he hit a wall. He didn't want to go. Nothing had happened. We skipped two classes because he threw monumental tantrums. I was convinced we wouldn't be going back. But I was so confused be cause he seemed to enjoy it while he was there so I called to discuss it with Professor Dana. She assured me resistance can come up for lots of reasons and to push through. We did - and he got over it quickly!!! Without Professor Dana's guidance we would have bailed altogether and what a terrible lesson to teach our son. I'm so glad we stuck with it!
A quick word about Professor Dana, Professor Gavin, Coach Patrick and all the other coaches...wow! I already shared how Professor Dana turned things around for our son but it's so wonderful to be a part of a community at Gracie Barra where there is a team of adults working to build our son's confidence and strength while having fun! I genuinely love every class and watching our son learn new things physically and...
Read moreMy daughter started training with Gracie Barra Ashburn in August 2020 and Professor Charles, Professor Victor, and Coach Dana welcomed us with open arms and provide an amazing and safe environment to learn Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. During these unprecedented times a main priority was safety and Gracie Barra Ashburn follows specific protocols in their school and on their large and very clean mats, and they offer virtual courses for all. This school offers excellent instructors that care, have well run classes, and have detailed and one-on-one explanations of techniques. The Gracie Barra Ashburn community is amazing and everyone truly cares about learning BJJ and self defense. They offer a great competition teen training class and I have seen my daughter learn and grow from this class. After sitting and watching, I decided to sign up myself and enjoy taking the Barre Fit. - fitness class and BJJ training classes. They offer many classes and times that fit various schedules. With that said Gracie Barra -Ashburn is where you can get fit, find instructors and fellow students that are committed to you learning BJJ and self-defense, and you have the ability to train anywhere and in a safe environment!!! Plus you get to try a...
Read moreI've been at GB Ashburn for about two months, and so far the experience was awesome, and kind of life-changing! 3 things I'd highlight for anyone looking for the "right" gym: People. Everyone, from the professors/coaches to the peers, are wonderful. The professors are all super friendly, approachable, and are always great at answering questions. The peers are respectful, not overly aggressive, and kind. Big shout out to Professor Dana, Professor Rafael, and Professor Thiago for being awesome!
The environment. The physical environment is clean, but more importantly, I find the (non-physical) environment incredibly welcoming. There are areas for kids to hang out when parents are taking classes, plenty of chairs and sofa, and staff are just so, so kind and nice to the kids!!
The classes. There are classes for everyone - in the morning, middle-of-the-day, evening, and Saturday. Classes for kids, teens, adults, and WOMEN (!!). I also love that the classes are very organized, such that when I attend classes almost randomly throughout the week, different professors are all teaching similar techniques that build off of a...
