As a resident of Brentwood I play S.L. often. For the most part the course is in good condition. There are however some exceptions. First off, the course is exceedingly dry. I’m not sure how much they water the course but it seems very sparse. Also, there are many holes that they should allow the grass to grow much more along side of the fairways. The slopes are severe and balls just roll out into penalty areas. If there was some rough along side the fairways the ball might stay in play, which would also help the pace of play issue they seem to have sometimes. They’re just mowing these area far too short which I really don’t understand. The bunkers are rarely maintained which is too bad. Players don’t even rake them. The greens are very nice but unfortunately whoever is responsible for hole locations doesn’t understand that greens are built with specific locations in mind. Placing holes in areas that aren’t designed for a hole to placed, ie on ridges, makes for unfair putting, especially on fast greens. It also affects pace of play. If the wind blows at all, good luck! It’s really a great course with a lot of potential. Hopefully they will do a better job of course maintenance and setup so the golf experience is...
Read more2.5 to 3 stars. Best two things about this course were some of the views you get and the greens. The greens were in really great shape and rolled very nice. Some of the cups didn’t seem to be cut the best, but that could be from the amount of play and the flag going in and out all day. The fairways were wide so you don’t have to be extremely accurate off the tee too. Visually, the golf course is a mess. Don’t let the lush green fairways on the website fool you. The fairways were more of a burnt-out grey and felt more like crab-grass. They were also hard as a rock. I was in quite a few bunkers and very few had the same consistency as far as amount of sand. The pro-shop staff was great, the driving range did its job. The course is challenging for sure. If you play, be ready to play in the wind. Had the fairways been in better shape, this would definitely had been more like a four star course; just seeing gray all day...
Read moreDecent course. OB was rough, and playing after the rains was tough. Went back on a dry day and had a nice round.
Lots of water. After all it is Shadow Lakes.
Don't hit yellow balls off the first Tee, the practice range slices into the fairway.
I did see if the practice facility has a sand trap. Practice is of mats.
A few weeks ago I played there and they ran out of hot dog buns on a weekend day. And zero cart girls.
Course 6.5
Practice Facility 7 (you can aim and hit a large electrical tower, but it's up hill)
Food 1 (it is unacceptable to run out of buns on a weekend. The Mgr should have made a wholesale run to costco.)
Clientele and pace of play 5 (there is a church that meets on Sunday and the parking lot is full. Pace of play was fine.)
This place needs to focus more on their food and...
