There are regular bike mechanics, and then thereās the kind of bike mechanic that should have a statue in the Pantheon. I was helped by Tyler as one of the thousands of riders at the Pan-Mass Challenge. Brewster Cycle Center was at the lunch stop, volunteering to help anyone in trouble (that alone speaks loudly, this being a weekend in Summer). By the time I reached their van I had already received "professional" help, changed a tyre on the road, and pumped my way to the lunch stop knowing fully well that whatever was causing these flats had not been removed / found yet despite us running hands everywhere they could along the rim. Thankfully the roads of the PMC are lined with families ready to let you pump enough air to go another 1/4 mile :-) At the lunch stop, I spent a whole of 10 seconds explaining the situation to Tyler, but rather than going for (another) quick tube change, he pulled the tire off and started looking. A previous mechanic and me (mere mortals!) had missed a small, black metal strand no thicker than a hair... practically impossible to see, jammed deep in the tire and just as hard to feel. By this point I was already happy, as this would likely put an end to the flats... but as heās pumping my tyre back, he looks at me and asks "100psi"? Now, to most this question is meaningless, but to MAMILs that absolutely love cycling a bit too much: Tyler took a quick look at my bike, my tyre width, sized up my height/weight, and knew exactly what the perfect pressure should be. This isn't just someone who can fix your bike... this is the one you should trust with whatever precious bit of race machinery your hard work has allowed you to buy. As I'm probably in the minority of those who would be impressed by these feats, I begged to tip or somehow repay them for having just made my day. But this being a mechanic that belongs in the Pantheon, he refused and wished me a great ride ahead. Now try and convince me this isn't worth a 5...

I started a 1x conversion of my plus size hard tail Scott mountain bike. I realized it was a bit over my head and some misc items needed to be taken care of anyway. I read some reviews about this shop and thought I'd check it out based on simple review merit. I'm glad I did.
I explained what I was looking to do. Tyler helped educate me on things I didn't already know, and immediately got to work doing his homework to figure out specs, part fitment, etc. before I even left. He dropped what he was doing to help me out.
I told him to take his time since I wasn't in a rush. I got the bike back in just a few days anyway, loads quicker than expected.
I got a new crank set (originally just looking for narrow wide front chain ring, crank was only a few bucks more), rear cassette with mega climbing gear (46T I think), rear derailuer with clutch, new narrow wide chain, new rear pads and rear rotor deglaze, fixed my stuck front lockout, tire truing, some new cables, and general service. The price tag was just over $400, which is an absolute bargain.
The bike has never looked (it was spotless when I picked it up) or ridden better and it's safe to say that I fallen back in love with riding it.
Long story short, Brewster Cycle is my favorite bike shop on the Cape, and I believe that you will...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreTyler went ABOVE AND BEYOND in replacing a rear brake cable! We are traveling in our RV & today was my last chance to enjoy the CCRT (I had my husband go ahead yesterday without me when we discovered my bike š² was in need of some repairs) & was truly disappointed that I hadnāt been able to ride. We come to the Cape every September from Buffalo NY to spend a week enjoying all that Cape Cod has to offer, and Tyler did everything to get my seldom used bicycle back in tip top condition while we waited! Then he let us park our RV in the lot so we didnāt have to waste any time before hitting the trail. He even brought us the trail map & made recommendations for our route. Canāt begin to say how much I appreciated the extent he went to to maximize our last day of vacation! Much...
