Summer 2025: What a difference a year makes. Went here expecting the same experience as last year (see below). Very disappointed. The prime rib/lobster special was overcooked. Prime rib was well done (had asked for rare) and the lobster was mostly bread stuffing. Wife's stuffed haddock - a delight last year, was similarly overcooked and a bit rubbery. Service was interminably slow. Took an hour from our FINISHING our salads (no anchovies available for the caesar salad this year) to receiving our main courses, which had clearly been sitting under a heat lamp for quite a while. I see why they got quite a few one star reviews. Given the inconsistency in experience and the prices charged, we can't see going back. Too bad - there is a decided lack of higher end options in the Plymouth/Bristol/Hebron area.
Summer 2024: My wife and I dined at Ledge Water this evening. Our first time here and we were a bit concerned after reading some of the one star reviews here and on Yelp/TripAdvisor. Not sure what caused the bad reviews, but ours was definitely not one of them!
From the time we arrived to our departure, everything was spot on. Alexis, our server, made us feel at home and ensured we were well cared for. The food was delicious and pacing spot on. My wife had the baked stuffed haddock and I had the scallops with lobster risotto. Since each entree comes with a salad and side, we did not order appetizers - although we did start with drinks. The caesar salad was amazing with a garlicky dressing that was spot on. I had anchovies added - and to my surprise (and delight), the were white anchovies, not the usual grocery variety. White anchovies are firmer and more flavorful - and impossible to find outside of fine dining restaurants. My wife had the house salad with strawberry vinaigrette dressing that had fresh strawberries included. The entrees were excellent with the haddock cooked just right and the perfect amount of stuffing - not too much as breading can overwhelm fish sometimes. My scallops were excellent, but the star of the dish was the risotto. The arboreal rice was cooked perfectly - and as someone who has cooked risotto in the past, I know this level of perfection is really really difficult to achieve. The rice was creamy, but with a firmness that led to a good chew, without being hard at all. Some chef back there knows what (s)he is doing! On top of that, the risotto didn't just have lobster essence, but several pieces of claw meat, including a large piece on top. The sides were equally impressive with the brussels fried crisp, but still retaining their bright green color (vs. the overly fried brown sprouts you typically find). The maple glaze was just right, especially from someone who is not a fan of sweets in his main dishes. My wife had the mushrooms, which came with several varietals and cooked well also. We tried to save room for dessert, but simply didn't have it in us. However, after seeing the menu board with over a dozen cake choices, we did take a piece of chocolate raspberry cake to go. It was HUGE! We couldn't resist so had a few bites when we got home. Moist and delicious.
Having just moved up to New Hampshire from a major city in the Mid-Atlantic, we simply weren't prepared to find a "Big City" caliber restaurant in Bristol. Ledge Water Steakhouse exceeded our expectations and we loved everything about the restaurant - well, except maybe the gravel/dirt parking lot - but really that's being super nitpicky on my part! Yes, the place is pricey, especially for New Hampshire, but the level of service and quality of food could definitely compete with top tier restaurants in Boston, New York or Washington, D.C. Overall, we found the experience worth the price. Did I mention the great lake views? We will definitely be back. Thanks Ledge Water team for a...
Read moreFor starters, this is the first review I have ever written! I am a retired 65 year old women I previously owned boutiques and an interior design business. So I know the importance of reviews. I am married to a 60 year old tech exec I grew up in the Boston area and now reside in the Lake region. Unfortunately, I feel obligated to write this review, due to the disrespectfulness this establishment seems to have for its clients, and the unseeminly lack of ability to take ownership for its mistakes... Ledgewater Steakhouse was always one of our favorite restaurants in the area only open seasonally we look forward to them opening each year. It's like a Boston Restaurant sort of near by about 35 minute ride for us, but the steaks and everything else have always been amazing . Boston or New York prices but definitely worth the trip, food and experience. Unfortunately, our past two visits have been very disappointing. Our steaks and steak temperatures were messed up on our last two visits, the first time this happened was late summer last year just before the restaurant closed we brought the error to the attention of our server and he did nothing about it just apologized, we thought how disrespectful, we are not ones to complain especially my husband. I asked a follow up question to our sever and he simply said sorry again ..We let it go and left feeling the service had changed, it as if they were doing us a favor to serve us and took no responsibility for their error. Recently we went back to Ledgewater with great enthusiasm for a wonderful dining experience. Unfortunately, the same thing happened with our order, it took sometime for us to realize as we were so happy to be there and enjoying a good meal, getting our delicous potatoes going etc. when I looked at my husband's filet mignon it was medium rare and he was settling without saying anything and soon realized my steak was to be cooked medium, his preference. Again our steaks were cooked incorrectly. I brought it to the attention of our server, once again no reply, so I posed a follow up question to her asking for the result of the error, she replied Oh I'll ask...had she just ignored our previous comment?? It was like we were a problem. Just to be clear we have already spent about $250, she returned to tell us they would like to offer us a desert on the house. We immediately felt dismissed and totally disrespected. Had we been in a Boston or New York restaurant or for that matter ANY respected restaurant the manger would have come to speak to us, but no, so I asked to speak to the manager privately out of respect for the restaurant, I went to the lobby and waited for her. She appeared defensive, I introduced myself not sure if I even got her name. She acted as if it was chore for her to be even speaking to me, never apologized, She said we had already eaten part of our steaks, I told her yes we were settling and I decided we should not!, and that I thought it would be important for the restaurant to know that is has now happened to us twice, and it was probably not good for the restaurant, and that we felt the offer for a complimentary desert was dismissive and insulting. She proceeded dismiss me and told me, she would discount the bill. When we got our bill she took off $20 I objected and she took off another $10. We dine out often and have never been treated so dismissively and with such disrespect. I should also mention that we were dining at the Bar and the party sitting next to us regular diners at the restaurant commented, " good luck they don't really care", while the lady in the other side of me wisphered to me "don't be embarrassed you guys are right". We will be taking our dining dollars and good nature elsewhere. ...
Read moreI attempted to keep this between management and our party but I have yet to receive a reply to my private message. This was our 4th year back at Ledge Water as we always enjoy the food, atmosphere and the view. Even though last year’s experience was not as good as the first two we decided this year we would go for my husband’s birthday, give a second chance, and bring our 14 year old daughter to make it a family celebration. Everything was going ok, service was a bit slow but tolerable. The weather wasn’t suppose to be great but we lucked out with mostly clear skies and a gorgeous sunset. However the night quickly took a turn for the worst. The second round of drinks came and the waitress attempted to balance the tray rather than using the empty table next to us as she did with the first round. A full glass of red wine landed on my daughter’s arm covered her white shirt, light blue pants and white shoes in red wine and shattered at her feet. Although the waitress apologized I had to proceed to ask for club soda to help avoid staining. The waitress got us club soda but was also more concerned about cleaning up the glass as not one of her coworkers assisted her. My daughter now soaked, a bit chilly and upset asked if they had shirts available so she didn’t have to sit throughout the rest of dinner freezing in wet clothes. We followed the waitress inside and were told that the only shirts available were on the wall as the office was locked and if we found one we liked to just take it down, she wanted ME the customer to use a chair to take the shirt off the wall that was two sizes too big for my 14 year old that was covered in wine due to HER mistake! In the meantime my friend was working on getting the stains out of my daughter’s shirt in the bathroom all while our food was delivered and getting cold. As we were attempting to make the best of the situation we then received the bill with not a single item comped and not a single offer to pay for the cleaning fees. When we questioned the bill we were told “well we gave her a sweatshirt.” The entire experience was extremely upsetting, a restaurant that I have raved about over the last few years I am not sure I ever want to visit again. We finished our night scrubbing stains out of clothes and shoes my daughter paid for using her own hard earned money, something unheard of now a days in her generation. After all said and done I know mistakes happen but I truly would have expected much more from a quality restaurant like...
