We live locally and have been here 3 times for meals this season; first time was great, second time not so great. The third time well, it was seriously so bad that the family won't ever eat in this place again. Both my wife and I have worked in the restaurant business. We are understanding of a lot but some things can not be overlooked. My granddaughters milk tipped over due to a tipsy table. The Waitresses' answer was just shove a napkin under it. No apologies at all. The waitress was rude. I felt she went out of her way to ignore us until my daughter had to yell to get her attention to bring the tartar sauce, milk and tea we had asked for. I waited 10 minutes or more for tartar sauce. I asked twice for it. My clams were cold from waiting so long. When the waitress came back and asked how everything was I said my clams were cold. Her answer was I put your tartar sauce right here which was on the other side of the table (not in front of me). Everyone was DONE eating by the time the tartar sauce arrived. My mother inlaw, who is diabetic, was brought sweet tea instead of unsweet and it brought her sugar levels to 520. My rootbeer came before all other's drink from a table on the other side then several minutes later the 5 others received the drinks they ordered. What started all these complications was bringing my own wipes and washing the table and arms off and making a comment about the black dirt all over my wipes. Went during closing time for ice cream the night before and tables in the side room were filthy. We watched the girl brush the crumbs the table with her hand and lock the doors. During these uncertain times, I had hoped for better cleaning routines. I realize it was busy. Maybe a hostess who could make sure tables were clean, not have fish pieces still on it and chair arms that not even wiped, would be a huge benefit. And an apology from the waitress would have...
Read moreBecause we all loved this place so much, ill start with the cons.
The only con is that it can be loud inside. That, plus, wait times can get a bit lengthy since it's such a popular spot!
Now onto the pros!
The service was lovely. Staff was friendly, upbeat, and very kind. They went above and beyond!
The food was delicious! And compared to other places, price wise, we were surprised at how affordable it was! Husband got a clam chowder soup and fried shrimp plate. I've never tried a clam chowder soup that was better than my own until I tried it there. I make a really good clam chowder soup and the soup at The Big Catch definitely compared well to mine! I didn't try his fried shrimp but he said he was happy with them. Mind you, my husband is very hard to please food-wise!
Our kids got a chicken tender plate. The fries were your basic fries. The chicken tenders were wonderful! They were juicy and tasted good. Not every place makes them well, but this restaurant did an awesome job! Coleslaw was decent as well.
And finally, I got a Caesar salad and a double pattie burger. The salad was really good. The dressing was delicious! The burger was AMAZING. It was juicy and it was not small. I was worried about it being underwhelming but had a wonderful surprise! It was juicy and in general, a well made burger. My burger came with fries, which I mentioned previously.
We will definitely be coming back here whenever we visit newfound lake!!!
(I did want to also mention that we did see a dog on the outside patio and the dog did have a water bowl! I'm assuming the restaurant provides water for dogs. I know this may be important for dog...
Read moreWent to Big catch first time this summer. Was sitted pretty quickly. If you never have been the view is beautiful, right across from Newfound Lake. My grandaughters ordered chicken tenders buffalo style. Both of them didn’t like it. Not sure why, but that’s what they usually order when we go out and this time they left almost all of their food. My daughter had the scallops and fish boat. She said it was The waitress was nice, delicious, however she got 5 scallops and a very small piece of fish. It came with fries she asked to upgrade and get onion rings instead since she doesn’t like the fried ones hey serve. She was told she hey can’t do that. Mind you an order of fries as a side is 6.95 an order of onion rings is 7.95. She had to order a side of fries. I had the clam boat. Clams were good , We also ordered 2 drinks. Tito and I ordered Gin. Both very good. Learned a few years back don’t order their specialty drinks because you only can taste the fruitiness of them hardly any liquor. The bill came to 134.00 without tax and tip.We also ordered calamari as an app, which was very good. The waitress...
