A working pier so often cluttered with large crab traps and boats being hoisted in, plus a decent number of recreational fishermen too line the rails. The surfers often gather and scan the waves off the end checking the conditions and sometimes even jump off with their boards to get a head start to best surfing a mile or two along the beach on the right. Folks generally nice though again the commercial fishermen got a job to do so stay out of their way and stay alert when you see boats being brought onto the pier with the crane. Cool thing is you can often buy fish or crabs right from the fishermen for decent prices. Good pizza at the base of the pier too. Fishing can be ok but a lot of snags. Don’t bother dropping crab pots here at the pier as people only get tiny crabs and few at that. Trust me I’ve tried a few times and seen many others try to with little...

This pier launchers trailerable fishing boats via a crane on the pier You can fish off the pier. I have not seen anyone catch fish off the pier however, if you're fishing isn't very good off the pill you can buy fish off the the boats returning. The other amenities around the pier consists of a pizza restaurant, a restaurant that used to be a bar and restaurant and now does not seem to be open very often, and now only carries beer and wine. This is a great place to visit there's usually a lot of activity and many people picnicking I'm just enjoying the views. It's only a couple of miles north to The point arena lighthouse. The lighthouseis fantastic you can go to the top of a tall lighthouse here. And tore a very good exhibit lighthouse memorabilia. The town of point arena is fun with a couple of decent restaurants...

I've seen more picturesque piers, but this one has all its bases covered. There are picnic tables overlooking the sea, a real working pier with fishing and lobster or crab boats, a swing, a rocky beach, plenty of parking, and an attractive restaurant and cafe. We came at dusk just to take a peek, and were rewarded with a family of sea otters feasting on a fish they had just caught. That's one for the bucket list!
