So... I wanted this place to be good but it just wasn't. We ordered the fish & chips. The portion size of the fish was bad. All bread and barley any fish. I had to peel off all the breading to even taste the fish. The breading was super dark and a weird batter. Like a corn dog batter but not. It was all bread and no fish really. Maybe the oil was old I'm not sure. It was hard and just not right. Super greasy too. The fries were good though. The cole slaw that came with the fish & chips was sour It could be they just used a lot of lemon in it which I'm not use to or it could have been sour. It definitely tasted funny to me. Just the whole concept of this place was off. It's a restaurant but not I guess. You have to go to the bar and order your food and drinks, then you pay and tip before you even see the food. It was very odd. The claim chowder comes in a Paper bowl. Which I have to say the clam chowder was ok not great but ok. I have had worse. We ate everything because we dont like to waste anything. The only good thing about this place was the drinks and the view. Just not a place I would eat at twice. I should have took pictures of the before but of course I forgot.

I am not sure if I had the normal dining experience here, but I would come back with slightly different expectations. When we walked up the deck with the outdoor seating, a lot of younger people in their 20’s was pretty much taking up the space, not so much physically but they were loud and probably did so to get the space to themselves. It was very much the ā€œ you can’t sit with usā€ vibe. Came inside and you could only order at the counter, rushed through that and found a seat with the dinner crowd. I had ordered a clam chowder and it came out within 2 minutes of sitting. Chowder was 6/10 for me, not a lot of flavors and a little on the runny side. The actual meals were fantastic, my partner and I both were happy with the taste of the food. I had the Rockfish dish, and everything was seasoned exceptionally. My partner had the fish Tacos- same fish I believe. I am unsure if they did free soda refills, but it would have been nice if someone checked on us during the meal. I’m not sure if they have a regular table service, but I would come again knowing a little more casual then first anticipated.

Pier Place is an absolute gem! From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed by Frankie, the owner, who is not only incredibly accommodating but also so personable. She took the time to recommend local spots and made us feel truly special and connected to the area. Amanda was just as incredible—so friendly and welcoming. We also want to wish Amanda's daughter, Savannah, all the best as she heads to Santa Cruz for her studies! The menu is awesome, the oysters were perfectly shucked and absolutely divine. We also ordered ceviche which was super fresh and fish & chips and as a Brit… fully approve. Everything came out quickly and tasted SO good. Even though they use sake-based liquors, their cocktails were top-notch. We ended up staying longer than we planned because we just enjoyed chatting and learning about the area from the wonderful staff. We will 100% be back, and it's all thanks to Frankie and Amanda. Oh, and a little secret: ask Frankie about her pet-friendly Airbnbs in the area- we can't wait to bring our doggie next time

My wife and I went there on Sunday about a week and a half ago. Sorry I took so long to post this. I have been debating if I should do so. My wife ordered half a salad and and a cup of chowder. I ordered a bowl of chowder. It wasn't busy, and the view was spectacular. We chose to eat inside out of a cool wind. They almost immediately brought my wifes chowder and our drinks. Then after a long wait they brought my wifes salad, still haven't brought my chowder. No one ever came to check on us. We finally flagged down a waiter and asked about my chowder. They seemed annoyed but went to fetch my dinner. When I got it there was a entire bay leaf sticking out of the bowl. I pulled it out. The chowder was ok. The waiters seemed more interested in helping the patrons sitting outside. They should have brought my wifes salad first with my chowder. Not sure what to say about the bay leaf. They should have checked on us at least once but never did. We even had to flag them down for our bill. We were told this was a good place. Maybe they normally are. But I wouldn't chance having the same...
