Rio Vista has outgrown this awful piece of engineering. It constantly malfunctions, causing a 5 minute drive to turn into two hours of commute. A ship will come through and highway 12 will be backed up for hours. 12 has become such a vital road to connect interstate 5 and 80, not to mention Rio Vista continues to expand. What a great bridge! You just don't see a lot of bridges like this, with the middle section drawing straight up into thin air. I am guessing that it's around 100 years old. This is awful infrastructure. This route is so terribly heavily traveled and mostly by 18 wheelers. If the bridge goes up for a boat or if there’s a car accident, expect to wait several hours to get through this only way to Rio vista.
