Probably my favorite local hike. You start at the skyline trailhead and walk about a mile in before you reach the Tin Mine Canyon trailhead. The trail is partially shaded by oak trees for the next half mile. You can see tree poppies, matilija poppies, sugar bushes, toyon, buckwheat, and all sorts native plants. After 1.5 miles you enter the canyon portion where you're completely covered in shade. You can see an old mining entrance in the hillside. If you walk far enough you can find heavily shaded areas with ferns and running water, even in the summer. Right now (after 13 atmospheric rivers and local snow) the streams are running and make a wonderful, melodic sound during the hike.
