If you ever plan to visit Vermont to see the fall colors, this has got to be a go to place on your list. The views are stunning, beautiful and will surely mesmerize you.
Once you cross the the auto toll road and the gondola ride (for Mt. Mansfield) youāll be entering this zigzag, twisty scenic road which will bring you to the notch. The enire road is breathtaking. It's scenic during peak fall foilage and you'll see people stopping along to take pictures. The road is very narrow and there would be cars parked on either side so i'd recommend to drive slow and yield to people walking along and the oncoming traffic.
Thereās a visitor center which will help you find your way to a couple of hikes/ trails. There were also porta potty which were clean. The parking is limited and you'll have to wait and search through. During our visit, there was no one in the visitor center. There are helpful signs and boards to guide you along the trails there which was helpful. The sterling pond hike starts from the visitor center and it is about a 1,000 ft elevation total. The smugglers cave is a few steps away from this visitor center.
The entire smugglers notch is scenic and makes for great photo opportunities. There are a couple of great hikes/ trails from here and i'd reommend anyone visiting vermont to check out this place during the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe have been here during winter and spring break and both trips were good experiences. I love the fact that we can spend a week here and not leave the resort as it has everything you need. The free shuttle service is great if you donāt feel like walking. As a Floridian I find the lower altitude here to be more comfortable for us as we had altitude sickness in Vail and felt more sluggish in Park city. I love that they offer down hill, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, tubbing etc so there is something for everyone. I later learned many of the popular resorts only offer downhill skiing which isnāt enough for my family. I also like that the classes were a few hours in the morning each day so my kids could practice on their own in the afternoon. The ski in/out condos were great too. I thought All resorts were this way and was disappointed going elsewhere. The price comparison also makes this place a very good choice. The photo is from the snow cat excursion and Is well...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSmugglers Notch is gorgeous! The actual Notch, which closes in winter months to traffic, has amazing hiking and rock climbing. The resort is nice with a lot of family activities for all year. There are shuttles that run from place to place within the large compound. It loses a star due to a lack of adults-only pool and for the absolutely atrocious water pressure in every single bathroom. I've stayed in the Owls' Presidential Suite and the showers still are barely more than a trickle. I've stayed in Eastern European places with better water pressure. The on-site restaurants are good and there are shuttles to take you to some area attractions. It's not far to drive to other attractions and restaurants if you want to leave compound. It's a beautiful area that offers a lovely summer break. Full disclosure: I've never been in the winter because...
