Disappointed in food lion. They are the only game in town on the Eastern Shore in virginia. You would think they would carry some more thoughtful items. Frozen pearl onions aren't a fancy high priced item. Food lion doesn't carry them. Mint jelly. People living on the Eastern Shore don't eat lamb? Food lion doesn't think so. Food lion doesn't carry it. Vitamin water (not zero). You can't get it in orange or lemonade which are pretty normal flavors. Food lion doesn't carry it. When I enquired why, some manager said he couldn't control what their store was sent, they were supposedly not popular flavors. They had the same two weird flavors on the shelves for years. 'Just say anything and make the complaining customer go away.' That's food lions motto. Strange though 30 miles up the road walmart carries the orange vitamin water. Maybe walmart cares what their customers want. Packaged Hollandaise sauce. Don't look for it. Food lion doesn't carry it. I've been told to write my item request on a piece of paper and leave it at the front desk. But don't look for them. Food lion doesn't have them. They were probably thrown out the day they were left at the front counter. A poor way to treat customers. Are the monkeys running the zoo? I'll make a special trip to virginia beach and pay the twenty dollar toll just so I don't have to deal with food lion. ...
Read moreThe store is clean and well-stocked. It isn't as big as some of the Food Lion stores in/near bigger towns, but it certainly is adequate for the small towns nearby. I cannot think of one thing we needed that they didn't have. The reason I only gave it two stars is because of the employees! They non-stop talk to each other across checkout lines even when one or both have customers. They also complain A LOT about wanting to go home and not be there. I have been in the area for a month and did all of my shopping there since there are no other grocery stores and was in the store 2-3 times per week. Every single time, the employees were the same. They literally never speak to the customer unless the customer speaks first. I've tested this out several times by not saying a word to them and there was never anything said to me although they are constantly talking to each other. I suppose the best I can say is I give them credit for working. There's no motivation for improvement because there is literally no competition within about an hour's drive. If a manager was ever on site, I either never saw him/her or he/she behaves just like all if the...
Read moreAfter reading some of the reviews, I had to check to see if we were talking about the same store! I recently had the opportunity to frequent the VA Bch. Food lion. In short they would get 5 stars. This morning, pressed for time, I attempted to get some meats at the Deli counter. There was three folks back there, all VERY busy doing store business? I stood there figuring somebody would acknowledge me. NOPE. they looked, saw me there and continued doing whatever was more important. I went about my business to get the other items I wanted. Came back to the Deli, figuring I would try again. This time there was one person in the back, she looked, I asked for help. She looked like she wanted to jump over the counter and fight. Again I said No thanks and walked away. There's more I can say about the seemingly always irritated cashiers. In short, Food Lion, Cape Charles NEEDS some competition. Maybe that will help. I have to back there because they are the only...
