Somehow someone deleted my review except for the title. "Somewhat disappointing" We just wanted a pleasant getaway with bike trails nearby This golf course had lodging attached and it was five minutes from the Kal-Haven bike trail. The golf was more expensive than we're used to, but we decided not to look at prices for this getaway. The golf course was very nice, and worth the price. Nice computer aided carts with scoring and yardages displayed. Oh - and on our final day the pro from the golf shop, came out to our cart and gave us a bag with medications we had left behind when we checked out of the lodge. I was grateful and thanked him for his efforts.
The lodge was "HIGHLY" disappointing. First issue was nobody was there when we arrived (about 3PM) and place was locked. Wandered around and wound up calling the reservation line, and someone finally came over from the pro-shop to let us in. I'm 74, and my wife is 73, and I had hip replacement in April. They put us on the third floor (no elevator, just a winding stairway, that seemed like six floors. The room's ceiling was the rooftop, and I couldn't even stand up in the bathroom to use the toilet. After golfing we took showers in a tub that wouldn't drain, and had hair from the previous(?) guests. I have to say that when I reported it the following morning, they had it cleaned out by the time we got back from our bike ride a few hours later. Basically the lodge was unattended all day and we had to have a key code to get in any time before 3:00. Oh - and Ice was on the first floor for another trip up and down three flights of stairs. Breakfast was a joke and we couldn't even get toast. They had tasty sweet cakes, but that was the only positive. Boiled eggs were on the menu, but it was a hard boiled cold egg on a plate, and again - no toast. On the day we were leaving, there was actually an employee at the check-in desk. I asked if we could check out with her, and she agreed. I went up the stairs to get my wallet and came back down to find she had disappeared. There was a note on her computer so I looked to see if it said when she would be back. Imagine my surprise (not really) when I read it and found that the employees listen in on guest conversations, refer to them as drunks, complain about no tips, and supposedly accidentally one gave herself a $120 tip with some guest's credit card. Needless to say, we...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was attending, as a spectator a LeMons (not Lemans, like in France but an American derivative for the working class and more entertaining) at the Gingerman Race Track about 12 miles away. I had searched for a place for hours and either the prices were outrageous or the ratings were. I just about gave up and clicked on this site. I use to play a lot of golf but have been disabled by ineptitude in the medical industry for 6 years without recourse. I was aware that most premium courses had good lodging for golfers coming for several days of their annual golf fix. I didnāt have much hope. I called, was greeted by a delighted voice who took my reservation at about 1/3 the cost of and equivalent room in town which included a āmade to orderā breakfast (simple selections but numerous) and also because of my difficulty negotiating stairs they gave me a room with the fewest steps. I also had dinner at the bar. A great white fish sandwich. I read some other complaining about food service and I donāt believe them. The restaurant had at least 6 servers, and they were all moving very fast. The restaurant was about 3/4 full and everything looked under control. My meal got to me before I forgot what I ordered (Iām in that special age group). The inn keepers were nothing but helpful. Room was perfect. I got to watch the sun set over the golf course. I got to hit a bucket of balls the next morning. First ones I hit in 6 years. Did not to bad. Didnāt fall down once. Along with being with my son at the race track and this accommodation, this was the best weekend Iāve had in years. ...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhile up for the week to attend the Notre Dame / Central Mich game and the next game with OHST, we played 3 courses in 3 states: Indiana, Illinois, Michigan. Hawks Head was our choice to play in Michigan and it did not disappoint on any level, except for the clubhouse effect after to enjoy a drink or hot dog. The pro shop is small/quaint- but has some logo items if you are looking for a memento. Outside of that, this was a gem of a place to play. The tee boxes, fairways and greens were in phenomenal shape. Scoring was a little challenging only because of the layout regarding sand traps/wasteland areas. Overall difficulty is perfect for average golfers. It's not too long, par threes are good distances adjusted to weekend regular players meaning you didn't have 230 yards to hit the green and the par 5's were very respectable in distance and left you chances to at least acquire par if not a birdie chance. The course is well marked, manicured and easy to get around on. Even with a little rain that lasted for about 2 holes, this was such a great choice, and it will be on our list to play again. Pricing, staff and the secluded aspect of the course make this a must play when you are...
