I joined for 6 months around 2015, I think. I was so HUNGRY! Chris was the only pastor preaching most Sundays and his sermons were amazing! Intellectual and challenging! Not just full of a bunch of fluff. He was probably the only person there who wasn't completely full of garbage!
The music was incredible too! I have a 12 year background in leading worship PROFESSIONALLY and knew I'd love to sing with REACHs worship team. But during the SIX MONTHS I was there, I was never allowed to sing. Christmas was the straw that broke the camels back. I had been attending for 6 months, they had THREE services, but if you weren't part of the original clique, you were not allowed to sing for Christmas. It was more about the performance than ANYTHING ELSE! How offensive and exclusive!
Another thing that happened that was utterly ridiculous is a member of the team decided he didn't feel comfortable around me. So the worship leader, Scotty, approached me about my "behavior " as though I'd done something wrong. Turns out the crazy bass player didn't feel comfortable with me sitting in the chair next to him and making friendly conversation. Which really says more about HIM than it does about me! We were NEVER alone together, I never touched him in ANY way, not even in the arm! I'm willing to bet he felt attracted to me and that made him feel bad bc I'm married. GOOD CALL SCOTTY!
I was a lot more gracious about this place than I should've been bc I was so hungry and maybe a little lost and completely traumatized from my last church experience! (But nobody ever asked me about that. About why I was at REACH in the first place. ) They are VERY exclusive! If you're wanting to be anything other than a congregant, you better be beautiful and dynamic if you want to weasel your way into the inner circle.
I am so glad I finally shared this. It's been on my mind and I literally feel like crying as I write this remembering the hurt I felt at be excluded and then accused of talking too much to a male team member!
To this day, bc of past church trauma, I cannot become close to people at church. There is almost a physical force...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is the healthiest church I have ever been a part of. I have attended some great churches but City Reach stands above them. The men arenāt afraid to lead, the women are powerhouses, the worship rocks, the children's church is amazing. I feel so secure leaving my kids with the staff. When they were little they would cry when left with other childcares but here they never did. They wouldn't even say goodbye to me. āŗļø I knew this was the place when they were comfortable. Pastor Ryan is the most loving pastor we have ever had the chance to learn and grow under. He and Dana have been true examples of love and acceptance. We have been coming for over 3 years, before we merged last fall and became City Reach, when it was Expression Church. Our marriage was on sever rocks and our finances were non existent. In just 3 years we saw God restore our marriage completely and increase our finances times 11! We have been privileged to be apart of their amazing transition and adding in Pastor Chris and Daniel. They are such amazing additions to this new thing God has married together. You will not be disappointed making City...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe are so thankful and blessed to call CRC our home for the past 2 years, we spent many years searching for a good church home for our family and couldn't be any happier than we are here. We look forward to every Sunday and every moment we get to enjoy our church family. Our children absolutely love their Sunday school classes and going to youth group as well. The youth pastors know our kids by name and greet them often, and are truly interested in them and growing their love for The Lord. There is literally something for everyone here. We love the atmosphere, the purpose and all the love that is shown to everyone who walks through those doors. Pastoral care has helped us and been so supportive in many ways and it always feels good to get a pat on the back or a friendly hug from many familiar faces so often. We have met new faces as well as reconnected with some from our past here, as my husband and I grew up in Leander. God is truly doing some extraordinary work through city reach and we couldn't be more thrilled to be a part of it. God...
