Cedar Rapids Airport (CID) â Do Better
If youâre going to schedule 5:00 AM flights, maybe open your TSA checkpoint before 4:00. Passengers are boarding at 4:30 and canât even get through security in time, let alone grab a coffee or a bottle of waterâsince all concessions are still closed and vending machines are either out of order or nonexistent.
This morning, the only place open had a line of 16 people just trying to get a drink or snack. I walked down to the brand new wingânothing. No vending machines, no open concession stand. Just a nice-looking space with zero functionality.
And donât even get me started on TSA. I travel every single week. I know the drill. But this morningâs experience was next-level miserable. As Iâm trying to unload six separate items thanks to TSAâs own âstrip everythingâ rules, Iâm being barked at like Iâve never flown before. No items over the laptop. Shoes on the belt, not in a bin. Everything was a commandârushed, rude, and condescending.
I only have two hands. Chill out. Itâs 4:00 AMânot a time for arrogance or aggression. I even mentioned it to another agent afterward, and she silently nodded like, âYeah, that guyâs always like that.â Thatâs the problem. This isnât a one-off. Itâs the norm.
Weâre not livestock. Weâre paying customers. If CID wants to be treated like a real airport, it needs to act like oneâstarting with basic hospitality, early access to essentials, and TSA agents who know the difference between enforcing rules and...
Read moreI AM BEYOND IMPRESSED at the level of incompetence by every function of employee at CID this Sunday morning, when trying to board a flight from this little airport. It took over 90 minutes to move about 100 feet, because as i soon found out, everyone working there was completely clueless as to what they were supposed to do. They had only 1 lane, yes just 1 person for the entire airport, open for check-in, 3 people trying to operate the X-ray conveyor, then they couldn't keep track of what property belonged to who, and were very rude overall. It shouldn't have taken almost 2 hours for this tiny little airport to check in about 100 people. They had a lot of people very angry and yelling because they were making lots of people miss their flights due to employing mentally retarded inbreds, who for example made me even more late because they took me to the side and searched my carry on bag because of liquids and a laptop. After emptying everything out they found no laptop and no liquids, because there were none to begin with. These people were just that bad at their jobs. Flying in was great, aside from being 1 of 2 planes that landed and it taking 30 minutes to get the bags unloaded, because no employees had to do anything else that could impede the passengers. It's pretty sad when the pilot has to apologize for the airport they landed at. Really...
Read moreI wish I could review this airport and itâs staff separately. FIVE STARS âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸ for the airportâs facilities, convenience, flight options, and TSA. The building is beautifully renovated with great seating, food, and shops. The family restrooms and mothers/nursing rooms are nice and well located. The entire building is convenient to navigate both inside and outside. They are one of the only airports for miles in the midwest to offer a direct flight to Washington DC. The TSA staff were very efficient and professional, and the TSA experience was smooth.
ONE STAR âď¸ for the airport/airline staff. The women at the check in counter and gate for American Airlines (Monday 6/12/23) were extremely rude, unprofessional, and slow to assist customers. I expect these staff to set a much better tone for the customersâ experience at this airport, especially as a mother flying solo with two young children. I am appalled at how one woman spoke to me and behaved in front of other customers, including my children. I will happily fly through Cedar Rapids, but hope to never deal with these staff...
