There is a teacher at Kirkwood who teaches programming who targets certain students. I was in his class and got several really bad grades because of things like not naming my file exactly like he wants. Assignments that were perfect and should get an A would get an F over a name. He would also change his instructions for assignments and then give bad grades to select students who followed his original instructions. When bringing this up to Kirkwoods administration they didnt really seem to care. I was on the deans list every semester until I took this class which was impossible to pass because the teacher had some personal vendetta towards me. Then on top of everything, Kirkwood charged me extra for failing the class! I realize local colleges arent a dime a dozen and it is hard to just go somewhere else, but if you are thinking about which college to go to for a programming course I would definitely keep your options open. Maybe choose a college that holds their professors accountable and doesnt allow them to treat students differently then others by failing students they...
Read moreAwful experience and unfortunately is the end of my school experience anywhere, just a few classes shy of my degree too. If you are a parent or have children I would advise you to look at other schools. Although Kirkwood has a nice array of programs, if you are unable to complete the requirements because of situations out of your control and Kirkwoods refusal and avoidance to work with someone towards a mutually agreeable remedy along with the lack of policy adherence to obtain ethical and just outcome then the array of programs does not matter much. So thank you Kirkwood for assisting a mother of six that was trying to get an education to attain employment that would allow her to fully support her family when she was faced with an undeserved hardship and adding a 30,000 dollar debt to her struggle....I find it extremely suspicious that all the 5 star local reviews come from those the have given hundreds of reviews and all of them are 5 stars almost like they are rewarded for their 5 star...
Read moreMy grandpa passed away the last week of a semester and I needed to leave state for the funeral. I applied for credit as is. They told me dont worry youll be approved. Just go be with your family . I found out almost 2 months later when my grades were finalized that they denied my request and never even told me. I asked what was i suppost to do? I had all A s in my classes so I would have done very well on the final exams. I asked to take the finals. They said no. I ended up with a few Ds. It tanked my GPA for years. Kirkwoods only solution was to retake the classes. They were awful to me. I asked several people what happened how could I have been denied? Apparently they threw away my application right away. For some unknown reason. If I had known that I could have taken the finals before the grades were finalized.
Kirkwood is what you pay for. Its cheap. And the school treats...
