We enjoy the gym for it's proximity to our house and it offers what you need a gym to provide. The staff is very friendly. It doesn't have the most up to date equipment but in my opinion it is good enough. There are a few flaws and it seems that is why people are leaving for other gyms.
Flaws: Limited Child Care - No child care at all offered on Sunday and limited hours the rest of the week. Other gym's offer much larger windows for child care and do offer it every single day.
VERY Limited Internet Access - I would challenge anyone to actually get online at this gym. The employees tell us that only about 25 or so people can be online at the same time. 90% of the time I try to get online for 10 minutes before giving up. If you are fortunate enough to get online the signal will not allow you to stream video. It's a shame as it is almost 2017 and the way that people exercise has changed....people want to be able to get on a cardio machine and stream a tv show they are watching. This is the biggest reason most of our friends are leaving The Trails for other facilities and likely will be why we leave if it doesn't change.
Outdated TV system - They do have flat screen TV's but they could/should be bigger. The only way to listen to the TV's is to have a handheld radio with you. Again, it is almost 2017 so most people carry their cell phones with them....to listen to the TV I would have to carry a radio as well. If you look around, hardly anybody is carrying a radio with them so hardly anyone actually listens to the TV. Most people stare at the TV wondering what is being said. All equipment should be equipped with audio plug ins so that a radio is not necessary. Alternatively, many gyms now have individual TV's mounted on all equipment....this would be the best but due to cost I doubt The Trails would ever do this. A much more cost friendly option would be to enhance the WIFI so that people can watch programming of their choice.
Overall this is a nice gym and we enjoy it but it certainly feels that they have not kept up with technology. That didn't matter 10 years ago but in this day and age people have grown accustomed to technology and demand it. My 80 year old parents go The Trails when they visit from out of town and they complain about the technology if that tells you anything.
PS - It is also a shame that with the amount of children that frequent this facility that they sell peanuts in vending machines. Our daughter has a peanut allergy and every so often we come across peanuts on the floor. Always has us on edge that at any moment my young daughter could eat a peanut and have a life threatening reaction. Any way that you could stop...

I was a volunteer coach for 10 year old basketball. The athletic directer Tom, reacts as if he is completely disoriented. Was given one rule book, the rules weren't enforced according to the book. ( I am not talking about referee's, they outsource for that) Promised kids an introduction before the last game. They have a P.A system in storage. Final game Tom just stands there and yells, you couldn't hear him from the free throw line where all the kids and I were standing. The clock operator looked like just some random guy that was Tom's friend, he was elderly and nice but couldn't actually keep the time correctly.
As a patron, besides the hard working cleaning staff, nobody does anything! Literally they stand there and look at you then say awkward hello's and go back to conversing with each other or on their cell phone. A line of 6 people becomes a log jam that piles up out the door and you get that "what are they doing back there, it's not hard to move a line" feeling. Signing up for a sport/activity/class with them is an incredibly difficult process. Just go tell them you would like to sign up for "volleyball ect" and watch them simply not complete that task.
The facilities are poorly managed, basketball is the dominant sport in the gym (its 2 3/4 court sideways inside full size court. imagine your middle school gym basically) but yet they force a ridiculous amount of hours to volleyball only. Outside of the league the most people I have ever seen playing a pick up game of volleyball is 5. Also here are the specs. 1 full size basketball court. 2 racquetball courts, 1 oddly shaped and sloped track, 3 lane lap pool not full size. Everything feels small and not enough in the aquatics, as long as everywhere else besides weights, they got all the weights you want. Rec centers should have 3 full basketball courts and at least 3-5 racquetball courts.
Just go there to run or lift or core exercise or if your a middle age'd privileged housewife do yoga during the afternoon when everybody else has to work. Avoid having any interaction with management or employees and enjoy the awesome views of the back of piney...
Read moreI am a firefighter for the city, and signed up my entire family for this gym for it to be the worst experience I’ve had 5 times. The facility is wonderful, however the managers are horrible.
Here’s the situation: I have my infant asleep in a baby carrier on my chest while I am off to the side, instructing my wife and brother on how to do exercises. Out of the way. Not bothering anyone. Twice, a group of teenage girls are swinging on the equipment, toying with the equipment and walking in the way of my family while my family is lifting and carrying weights. DANGEROUS. Nobody comes by and says anything about it. While this is occurring, a manager comes by and tells me I can’t have my sleeping child nearby while they workout, but did absolutely nothing about the actual reckless behavior of their other guests. KEEP IN MIND: I’m off to the side and it was NOT busy on the fitness floor and I’m clear of any dangers that they may be concerned about.
This is the third encounter I’ve had in which the management has kicked me out of the area for something so arbitrary, closed early, or has provided the wrong information. Meanwhile, THEY WERE CHARGING ME MORE THAN THE QUOTED RATE WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE.
I am a firefighter, martial artist, and trainer. I’m very well aware of safety concerns. But I have 2 other gyms I attend that are more than welcoming of my daughter being there so long as she’s not crying and throwing off the atmosphere. I only signed up here because of the child care program (not available the day I came in) and the pools that are here. None of the managers have been willing to assist or listen to my issues when politely confronting them about it.
Thanks for coming...
