Honestly, I would give my experience zero stars, if I could. I had not been to this location of AZ Hair Co in probably ten years and each time I was angry and disappointed by not only the customer service, but the hairdressers as well.
Today I went in for a haircut (In my mind, that means a cut and a style) as a walk in customer. There were two hair dressers working at the time, both of them busy with a customer. I was told by the receptionist that there would be a five minute wait, as someone would be finishing up soon. That wasn't an issue, since I had a couple of hours to spare.
Fast forward 20 minutes and I am cruising on Facebook not minding the wait...until a customer with her daughter walked in. They obviously knew the hairdresser working directly behind me, while saying hello to her by name. This woman abruptly finishes with her haircut, (a young little girl with long hair) sending her out to her awaiting mother with a wet, freshly cut head. They seem dissatisfied, but pay and leave.
I start to put my phone away and wait for the now free hairdresser to call me over, as I was the next customer in line. Instead, she calls to her friends daughter, and the girl runs over, plops down in the hairdresser's chair and begins to describe what she wants done. The receptionist at the desk calls over to the hairdresser and says "is she in the book? What's her name?" The hairdresser responds with her name. The receptionist reminds her that I had been waiting. The hairdresser says "oh my bad didn't see her there," says nothing to me (I am literally 2 feet away) and starts to service the girl.
Well, that made me a little upset, but I said to myself "it was an honest mistake and you aren't on a time crunch, so relax." I was called back shortly to a woman named Debora Lewis (she gave me her card). The next ten minutes of my life was the worst salon experience I have EVER had.
She says hello and seems very personable. Takes me back to the hair washing basin and asks what kind of haircut I would like. I tell her "long layers, basically just a trim of what I have," she cuts me off before I could finish, talking about something unrelated. That really bothered me. She didn't seem to care about what I wanted OR for that matter let me describe to her that I have bangs (they were up) that I needed trimmed and describe my hair texture (it can be quite frizzy at times). These are important things to know when cutting someone's hair!
So she washes my hair (with little reguard to keeping my clothing dry) in one minute and im over to the chair. She keeps babbling about lord knows what, while I'm seething. She then starts to cut my hair without even brushing my entire head first! My hair is obviously tangled and she just puts it half up and begins to drag her COMB over and over into the bottom layer she sectioned out to cut. This continues throughout the WHOLE haircut. It was painful, it was awful. I Finally get a word in to tell her that I have bangs and that I part my hair in the middle, to which she starts telling me how to cut my own bangs so I don't "butcher them." Okay... thanks.
The end of the haircut, she has apparently trimmed all of my layers while also miraculously leaving my hair a rat's nest of tangles. Abruptly, she takes my apron off, says "there ya go," and walks away before even asking me if I liked it, or was happy or needed anything else done! My hair was soaking wet. I stood up shocked and thoroughly frustrated. I bent over to the mirror to try to pick off all the hair that was left on my face and neck, (no courteous blow dry here folks!) And to try to untangle the mess that was left of my hair with my fingers. I didn't care who was waiting, I stood there and made myself look halfway presentable for at least 5 minutes. I walked over to the receptionist without saying a word, payed without tip and left in a furious daze. I immediately get into my car, flip down the mirror and assess the situation I had now found myself in. I will NEVER go there or any AZ Hair Co again. I would warn you...

CHECK THEIR OTHER REVIEWS; THIS IS A PATTERN WITH THIS SALON, I WISH I WOULD HAVE READ THE OTHER REVIEWS FIRST. The original review was left because Clela, the hair stylist, reassured me that she would fix it. She told me to let my hair "RECOVER" for at least 4 weeks, then come back, and she would "FIX" the greenish-blue tint AT NO CHARGE! I was quoted $200-$250; in the middle of the job, she said it would be "a little more" because they had to charge me for a few extra bowls. The final bill for just the color was $411. I was shocked that it was that much more, but tipped her 30%, because she said she would fix my hair after the 4 weeks, at no charge. I gave this woman a $123 tip, and she screwed me over and LIED on top of it to her manager, telling them she didn't say any of that and that I never came back in. When Clela finally finished, I had been there for a total of 8 HOURS in the chair, I had a greenish-blue tint, but she said she would fix it after four weeks after my hair had a chance to recover. I returned at 5 weeks and saw Clela, in person, she looked at my hair and said she still saw the tint and when I asked, specifically, if there would be a charge, she said, "No, no charge." I booked an appointment for the following Monday, and less than an hour after I left the salon, I received a call from the girl up front, and she stated that she saw the scheduled appointment for Monday and it said "NO CHARGE," and she was calling to tell me that it was too late, that they had a 2-week policy, saying that it had to be fixed within two weeks! First of all, this "policy" WAS NOT posted anywhere in sight; second, when I told her what Clela and I had set up, she said she would "talk to her manager and call me back." She called back after a bit and said, "Actually, I was wrong; it is a 7-day policy, and Clela said she was going to follow "company policy." My husband and I tried to resolve this situation reasonably with the salon manager, RENEE, and the final result after she talked to the owner was basically, "We are not refunding any of the money, and we won't do anything else." DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON, THEY LIE, DO NOT HONOR THEIR WORD AND WILL SCREW YOU OVER! CHECK THEIR OTHER REVIEWS, THIS IS A PATTERN WITH THIS SALON. LEARN FROM MY MISTAKE.
Clela is a true hair magician!!! She was able get out the purple I've had in my hair for years, and create a beautiful...
Read moreI was pretty upset with the service I received today. I'm happy with my haircut, thank goodness. I generally feel like this location really could improve their customer service. I scheduled a haircut with stylist I have had previously, and I showed up for my haircut. I was maybe 5 minutes early, and the receptionist said the lady was running about 10 minutes behind. I wasn't worried about it, I had the day off so I was in no rush. However, the lady ended up being about 30 minutes late. I still was just looking forward to a haircut and didnt mind too much. As I was in her chair though, she made comments that made me feel like I was making her late for her next client. She had cut the perimeter of my hair and the layers in the back, and I decided I would like the perimeter a little shorter. And she was frustrated that she would have to do the layers again. I get it, I went to beauty school, and it's like starting over. But I'm paying for a haircut, I would like it the way I want. So then, she finishes up the overall cut and asks if I would like bangs, or something to frame my face, and I begin to ask her a question of her opinion, and she cut me off and said, "I dont know, but I have another client waiting and she has been waiting for awhile." And I didnt, but should have said, I waited for you for 30 minutes, I think you owe me some time. I was frustrated. She does good work, and like the way she cuts hair. But to me, that was very unprofessional. As a licensed professional, that is not the way I would act to build up...
