UPDATE (7/23/19) Compiling a list of issues 7/23/19 - internet and TV issues were resolved a few days back, but are now both down again. I have been told to upgrade to business for less down time, and it costs twice as much. You gotta be kidding me... And btw, don't bother calling or emailing the address they leave here, nothing gets done. This is the biggest joke of an isp, and likely, as my work relies on it, I'll have to move just to be able to have a stable connection for work. Well done Mediacom, well done... If you can't provide a proper service, please stop monopolizing the area and charging sky high prices, it's damn near criminal. 7/14/19 - Internet and TV issues are back, updated FCC complaint, texted tech, waiting response. I spend more time with Mediacom than my family these days. 7/1/19 - Internet and TV service has been intermittent with approx 2Mbps speeds when it works for 2 weeks now. I was told 3 weeks to get a tech. Filed complaint with FCC, someone came the next day. They pulled a wire, said they had no clue and call if it happens again... really nice 6/27/19 - I'm being charged $2 for my last customer service call in which they removed a box that I never had. Basically, I paid to have them remove a charge from my account that was for an extra cable box that we've never had... What the hell? 6/25/19 - Internet was up and down most of the afternoon, max 30 seconds of connection here and there. Technician came to house to troubleshoot cable channels missing. This guy snooped around and went in rooms without asking, like my office. Then, started opening up cabinets that had nothing to do with our cable/internet... what the hell? Cable routinely stutters, or just stops playing. Try chat support, when you ask for an agent, it just disconnects I'm being charged every month for extra cable box, each month, they say it will stop. Each month, I waste an hour of my life having to re explain and get the charge removed. I have a single box, no extras. Internet hardware is absolute garbage. It is a MUST to get your own modem or you will suffer both poor speed and wifi range
I should have known better, but, because in this part of Prior Lake there is no other options, I signed up for Mediacom... My current 100 connection is topping out at 16 in the middle of the day, the TV is jittery, and I'm paying almost $140/month.
I originally wanted just internet, but was informed that internet by itself is $90/month, and I was quoted at $119/month for internet+tv which includes all taxes and fees. Now, my bill is substantially higher, and service is horrible.
Next, I see a promotion for $29/month for internet only, which they did not offer originally, I called back, and they will only do it for $90/month. Ridiculous. This is why internet in America is a joke, companies like this. A few months back in CA, I was paying $40/month, for far better service and connection speed. Unfortunately, if you live here, Mediacom will be your only option, and they will charge insane amounts for terrible quality simply because they can and know we have no choice...
Read moreThere’s a data leak that’s causing my Internet to cut out repeatedly. I’m lucky to get through half of a movie. Sometimes it cuts off back to back where I’ll have no Internet for minutes on end might not sound like a big deal but when it happens all the time, it’s very frustrating Media com only services Wayzata,so I cannot switch unless I use home Internet from T-Mobile or something like that. Customer service is the worst I’ve ever experienced. Three Out of the five appointments that I’ve scheduled , I didn’t feel like they were doing anything for me or helping me. This very last time I had a guy tell me he couldn’t see any issues and he’d monitor my line and see if they need to send someone out. I told him you guys never are able to see these issues on your end at the call center, but when they plug their machine into my wall. They can see the errors. He doubled down and told me he wasn’t gonna send someone out if they didn’t need to . We went in circles for about a minute and a half until I realized he wasn’t going to help me and I hung up called again and spoke to someone else they seen the issues and thought someone needed to come out. He had no explanation for why the previous guy said what he said. He just said he didn’t know why but reiterated that he did see the issues and felt someone was needed .The previous rude guy kept calling me total of four times even though I was rejecting the calls. The person I was on the phone with who was actually helpful. Told me the rude guy said in his notes he was calling me back to schedule an appointment because we lost connection. That’s not what happened. I was explaining to him the thing I just said about, they can’t see the issue and he was doubling down and going in circles with me saying he wasn’t gonna send someone out so he literally lied in his notes. Did I mention on the first trip? They sent a subcontractor out here who started talking about his addiction with alcohol and drug abuse the entire time didn’t say hi didn’t say much just came in here quiet started fixing stuff and randomly started talking about our souls, have leaks just like your data line. I used to be addicted to drugs and alcohol. I’m not exaggerating when I say this, that’s what he said. The second time they sent somebody out it was a Mediacom guy. He didn’t do anything at all except for tell me he can’t fix it then they sent him again for the third visit and he told me they didn’t understand why he was being sent there again and that I needed to have an escalated. It feels like a majority of the people at Mediacom are inept. I used to think Xfinity was bad, but holy moly was I wrong. If you have an option to choose anything, besides this, do not get it if you have no choice I feel extremely bad for you and if you’re moving into somewhere that only has media, I would literally reconsider where you’re moving because chances are you’re gonna have crappy Internet, not to mention after one year they hike your price...
Read moreI recently moved from Minnetonka to a house in Chanhassen, and I do not understand why Chanhassen must be plagued by such an awful cable company. Many of the surrounding cities (Eden Prairie, Chaska, Minnetonka, etc.) have Comcast/Xfinity which has much better services and features (Xfinity Go/Stream, X1, xFi, etc.) for the same price or lower. Mediacom relies mainly on 3rd party apps and devices to deliver their services which is a huge drawback in my opinion because it requires you to install and log into many apps instead of a simple, single sign on.
Mediacom is especially stingy when it comes to data caps. Mediacom has a cap of 400 Gb per month at 60 Mbps while Comcast has a minimum of 1 Tb per month data cap. Meanwhile, Spectrum (another major cable company in the Twin Cities) has no data caps on internet service. Comcast and Spectrum are nowhere near perfect, but they are substantially better than Mediacom.
I waited over one month to have a cable line buried to my house for internet. Several service reps told me the line would be buried within 21 days after the initial technician submitted the work order. After 21 days with no update I called multiple times to get an ETA, but no one could provide an approximate timeline. Finally, after 26 days I was told they it could take another 31 days to bury the line. The only reason they can expect someone to wait 57+ days for internet without offering some type of compensation or incentive is because they have a monopoly on the market.
The “dig once” policy might work for cites with better ISPs, but Mediacom had the lowest consumer satisfaction rating according to the ACSI Telecommunications Report for 2 years in a row and there are no signs of improvement in 2017. I never thought I would have such a bad experience with an ISP in the metro area.
In short, they don’t compete in regards to: Price – Quotes from Comcast and Spectrum were cheaper. How is this justifiable when Mediacom provides zero benefits over other cable companies in the Twin Cities? Data caps – Comcast and Spectrum offer higher or no data caps for internet service, regardless of the tier. Customer Service – Voted lowest consumer satisfaction in 2015 and 2016. Apps/Features – Mediacom has a simple mobile care app and relies primarily on 3rd party apps (i.e. Watch ESPN) to deliver their services. Apps like Xfinity Stream allow you to watch live and on demand TV on your phone or other streaming devices so you only have to login to 1 place. In addition, they have better apps for account management. Speed – Ranked below Comcast, Spectrum, Cox, and others according to the Netflix...
