Food Lion — Local services in Charlotte

I used to have this at 4 stars but recent experiences have caused me to decrease that rating and I probably won't return. They put in several new self checkout stations which is awesome when you only have a few things. Twice I've gone to check out with a cat full of food and ONLY the self checkout were available. Last night (8/23/23), was the second time. Three employees were standing around a register talking with each other about personal things but as soon as I approached I was told the register was closed and she pointed to the self checkout. I had about $200 worth of groceries in the cart. It would have been one thing if they were busy with something but they were just talking about what they like and don't, what they are planning when they get home. I mean, yay team building! but ignoring and dismissing customers is ridiculous. If there is some policy that after a certain hour only self checkout is available, then fine. If you are still going to hire personnel that have nothing to do but chit chat, have them do it in the break room. So infuriating. The little countertop could not hold all of my items so I was having to put bags into the cart while trying to get things out to scan still.

They have good prices. They have built up their selection of international food ingredients. The entire strip mall it is located within could use some upkeep as it all has a dingy...

Lady who was working self check out at 2:10 pm on February 18th 2025 was horrible. She was standing around talking to everyone. One of the check outs open up and i’m standing there waiting for her to stop talking to the customer. I wait a good couple minutes for the lady and her to move so i can check out. When they lady finally does move the worker goes “honey we got to keep the line moving”. Like yes i just want to stand around in foodlion doing nothing. No!! I want to check out. Maybe stop talking and do your job and let me check out and not be rude! Then when i go to put my buggy up and leave…. she is standing in front of the door yelling talking to another worker and i can’t move around her to leave. Ima kind person and tell her to have a a good day and she just looks at me. I cant stand people who works in customer service and treats people rudely. Get a different job. Miserable...

One of the most well managed Food Lions that there are. When was the last time the manager of a store introduced themselves to you??? Well I am on a first named basis with Steve the manager. He does a great job. The employees really like him too. They joke around and are happy to do their jobs. A young man was wheeling the grocery carts in and he stopped and said to me "No sir, you go first please." WOW! Manners!! How polite!. The store is clean and on par with Publix....cleanliness and the products being faced properly.....not prices. Keep it up. I stopped going to Harris Teeter because they went downhill FAST when Kroger bought them. Good job...
