Against my best wishes, my girlfriend went to purchase a car from Gallery Motor Company without me, which was a 2017 Toyota Yaris iA. I dealt with the car after the purchase, because of some issues that came up.
Issues I noticed: The windshield wipers were absolutely clapped out. Easy and relatively cheap replacement by the dealer but neglected by the dealer. I replaced these. They took the time to "clean" the engine bay, which just made everything super greasy. However, the battery hold down was missing a J-post and flapping about in the breeze. A universal kit from an auto parts store could have solved this easily but neglected by the dealer. I fixed this. They told her the tires were from 2020, but the DOT code clearly says 2019. They are also clapped out from the Florida sun, as the treads are all cracked due to UV damage. A moderately expensive replacement by the dealer but also neglected. We're going to be replacing these. A few days after getting it, the brakes started to squeal. I got her new pads, rotors, shoes, and drums. I replaced everything listed. However, when bleeding the brakes (the fluid was OLDDDD), I noticed the brake fluid reservoir, strangely, had a mixture of new and old brake fluid like someone was topping it off. I found that the rear driver's wheel cylinder was leaking, hence someone topping off the reservoir due to the leak. I replaced both of them, too, but this really should have been something done by the dealer or advised to the customer about. I think really exemplifies the lack of F's given about this car before they put it on the lot: 2 of the 4 valve stem caps were missing. They're like $2 to replace! Again, I replaced those because... c'mon. The Illinois title and registration paperwork they gave her was just a photocopied VSD 190 that had been previously filed. Like it was blank, and they just penned in all the details, except for the "Title and Registration" checkbox being left blank for some reason. However, these are electronically issued in pairs, as they have an individualized bar code and number on them for tracking and/or auditing, along with the RUT-25, which was missing. I helped her re-do these via the IL DMV's ERT system, as they would have had to do the exact same thing at the DMV. Just kind of pointless and lazy, tbh.
It just seems like they prettied it up a bit and put it on the lot but failed to address anything meaningful that was actually needing their attention. However, they were more than happy to sell her an extended warranty, of which I still haven't gotten to review what exactly it covers. I know the placard had a lot of red asterisks by every component, though. She confided that it felt like everything moved very fast and she didn't truly understand everything she was buying. Blame can be shared there, because the onus is mostly on the consumer in that part.
Just buyer beware, not every car here is properly checked and/or refurbished before it's put out for sale. I get this stuff happening during a private sale, but a (reputable) dealer usually puts a little more care into...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I recently had our transmission in our Toyota Camry go out. We needed a vehicle to replace our Camry and Gallery Motor Company was there to help us. We had gone to a ton of other car lots prior to visiting Gallery Motor Company. We found a lot of cars in our price range but when we went to test drive them and view them at other lots they all seemed to have underlying problems which were not mentioned before we arrived. We also had to deal with salesmen who were rude and unknowledgable.
Gallery Motor Sports gave us a whole new experience. Our salesmen (ERIC) was the nicest man we had ever met. He was not pushy in the least and knew a ton about the cars on his lot. After checking out the car and before test driving it we had already made up our mind. We knew we wanted to purchase the 2007 Pontiac Vibe they had for sale. Just for our own peace of mind, Eric recommended that we test drive it. The test drive only furthered our decision. Still Eric wanted us to be sure so he suggested that we take the vehicle to our personal mechanic and keep it until we are positive it is the right choice for us. Eric went above and beyond. He got to know me personally and discovered that I am a diehard hockey fan. He informed me that Al Macinnis was at his lot selling him a car and that I could meet him. He also offered me 2 5th row seats to the Blues vs. Flyers game the next night (FOR FREE). On top of everything else, Eric gave me his personal phone number and let me know that if I ever had a problem with my vehicle to contact him first so he can take care of me. I will never buy a car from another dealer again. He has my business for life. If you are in the market for a vehicle, don't waste your time and money at other dealerships. I live 70 miles from this dealership and I would recommend, no matter where you live, go see Eric. If he does not have the car you are looking for he can locate the particular vehicle you have in mind and will get you the best deal on the highest quality...
Read moreWhen I originally found the listing for 2014 BMW 335i. The car looked to be in great condition. After inquiring with the dealer, I was informed there were minor damages done to the trunk of the car but it had been repaired and retouched. When I flew up to see the car in person, there was a lot more needing to be done to the car. Fortunately, the car was under warranty and I was able to replace 85% of those parts. The real disappointment was when BMW informed me that there was multiple signs of damage having been done to the car and there were paint mismatches all over. This gave the indication that this car had been in a collision was covered up by the dealer. I remember specifically asking if the car had been in a collision they flat out told me no. There was a carfax on this car but it looks like the accident was never "officially" reported. I ask anyone going to them to do thorough research on the vehicle and take anything they say with a grain of salt as they are only looking to make their money and be...
