St. Luke's Hospital is a hospital that I regretfully cannot recommend based on my personal experiences with my fiancé as a patient. While it is important I approach this review in a professionally, I would like to convey my genuine concerns regarding the quality of care and the treatment my fiancé has received.
One of the most troubling aspects of my encounters at St. Luke's Hospital has been the consistently rude tone used by the nursing staff. Unfortunately, I have repeatedly found my fiancé subjected to their discourteous behavior. I have been disheartened to observe how some nurses have questioned the legitimacy of my fiancé's condition, despite doctor's orders, which is not only unprofessional but also undermines the trust that should exist between patients and healthcare providers.
Discrimination has been another issue that we have encountered during our visits to St. Luke's Hospital. There have been instances where the nurse assigned to my fiancé actively avoided assisting her or showed a clear lack of interest in addressing her needs. It is disheartening to see her treated differently due to factors beyond my control, as this goes against the principles of equitable and compassionate healthcare. On multiple occasions, we have had to resort to contacting the charge nurse or going onto the floor to find another nurse to request assistance or even request a change of nurses, which is an inconvenience that no patient should have to endure.
I was even informed by another nurse at St. Luke's Hospital that my current nurse had recently returned from a suspension due to reports of using racial slurs and making inappropriate remarks towards both staff and patients. This revelation was deeply concerning and shed light on the underlying issues within the hospital's workforce. However, the nurse who shared this information assured me that if I needed any assistance, they would be available to help.
I would like to touch on the efficiency of the emergency room and the nursing staff on the floor...it has been disappointingly slow. In urgent situations, every minute counts, and delays can have severe consequences for patients. Regrettably, we have experienced prolonged waiting times, upwards of 13 hours while experiencing a life threatning condition, and inadequate attention from the nursing staff, which has exacerbated the distress of the already challenging circumstances. The combination of a slow emergency room and a lack of prompt care on the floor has left us deeply dissatisfied with the level of service provided at St. Luke's Hospital.
I feel compelled to mention that I have made a complaint through the appropriate channels in the hope of addressing these issues. However, to my great disappointment, I have never received any response or witnessed any improvement in the quality of care I receive. This lack of acknowledgment demonstrates a disconcerting lack of accountability and an apparent disregard for patient concerns, further eroding my confidence in the hospital's commitment to excellence.
Lastly, on certain occasions, we have been subjected to explicit statements from the staff at St. Luke's Hospital, expressing their desire for my fiancé to leave the premises. These incidents have occurred even when her medical condition was still causing significant discomfort and concerning health risk. When we are seeking the necessary care for her health, it is not only deeply hurtful but also a clear violation of the principles of patient-centered care and empathy. Such unprofessional behavior further highlights the need for immediate attention to the overall culture and patient care practices within St. Luke's Hospital.
In all honesty, St. Luke's Hospital is not a facility we would willingly choose for my healthcare needs. The only reason we reluctantly continue to utilize their services is due to the fact that one of her doctors is affiliated with this network. However, it is disheartening to feel compelled to endure subpar treatment and unfavorable experiences solely because of this...
Read moreI had a bartholin cyst removed at St.Lukes by Dr.Jennifer McDonnell. It was supposed to be a routine outpatient procedure. After surgery, Dr. McD reported to my friend that "everything went well but her male assistant" told her, "the first set of sutras didn't look right," and she "had to redo them." So, if I am "more sore than expected, that is why." It was mortifying for me to hear that it took her "male assistant" to tell her she needed to do better. I made it into recovery around noon. After being in recovery for about 20 minutes, I felt a lot of wetness in my panties. I opened them up and saw they were filled with blood. We called for the nurse who said "that's definitely not right" and called the Dr. There seemed to be a lot of confusion in reguards to if the Dr. was coming to check me or not. I was told she was notified but proceeded forward with her next surgery anyway.I was bleeding so heavily that for hours, every 15 to 30 minutes the nurses were having to change my panties and pad along with the bed pad and sheets under me as I was soaking thru all. After having to change me several times due to bleeding thru, the Dr. came back only to say I'm just taking longer than usual to clot up and that I need to "apply pressure and not move" it wasn't even 20 minutes later that they had to call back down to her because I bled thru everything again. But her response was the same, "apply pressure, dont move." At 5PM they decided to admit me. I was still bleeding but it had seemed to slow down a bit. Between 5:30-6 Dr. McD dropped into my recovery room with her purse on her shoulder to tell me she had to "leave campus." Around 6:40 PM they came to transfer me to the room I would be staying in for the night. They took me to the labor and delivery floor. On the way up I felt another massive gush of blood leave my body. It was a gentleman wheeling me up so I waited to look until I transferred into my new bed. I looked as soon as he left and there was so much blood I could have scooped it up with both my hands. I showed my friend who instantly ran out and grabbed the first nurse she could find. The nurse was immediately concerned with the amount of blood she saw and ran out and grabbed everyone she could find. The house Dr. examined me and found a bleeding arteriole vessel on the incision and determined that superficial sutras were needed.I was extremely upset because if I need more stitches at 7PM, I needed them at noon, but instead they let me bleed all day. They then administered 3 shots of lidocaine to the extremely sensitive area that had already been stitched up twice because remember, "it didn't look right the first time" Dr. McD did it. So basically, I got to have the surgery all over again except this time, I was awake. My labia was literally stitched up into oblivion. This is not an exaggeration. My left labia no longer exists. I was mutilated. After leaving me to be everyone else's problem, Dr. McD returned to campus and in a disapproving tone just said, "well your definitely going to be bruised." And left. When she returned the next morning before I was released, she entered my room and trying to be funny said, "Did you eat a bottle of aspirin before you came in or what?" I was not amused. She clearly was trying to take the responsibility off of herself and put it on me. I couldn't walk for a week, had to miss more work than planned and couldn't have intercourse for months. I had no choice but to go back to see her for the follow up because it was impossible to find a different doctor to follow up with considering the time of year. She removed a ton of sutras because there were so many they would "never dissolve on their own." I was supposed have another follow up but decided I would not see her again. The kicker to all this, is that even after calling and describing my horrifying experience, St. Lukes still thinks I should pay them for mutilating, traumatizing and neglecting me. She knows she did wrong. Her office never even called to...
Read moreIt has come to my attention that St Luke's hospital does not comply by their policies, procedures, standards, ethics, and mission statements. It has come to my attention that one of St Luke's employees, was suffering from heart failure, on May 16th 2025, and that this employee notify a co-worker who was working in his immediate area, and this coworker disregard this employees plea for medical assistance, he was suffering with chest pain, shortness of breath, and coughing. He was requesting to go to the emergency room, and this employee failed to assist this coworker. He told the coworker who was having a medical emergency, that he could not clock out, and proceed to the emergency room. He failed to go get medical staff to attend to the coworker he left the co-worker unattended. The coworkers suffering with chest pain had to attempt to walk to the emergency room on his own. Lucky for this ill coworker other co-workers of St Luke saw him gasping for breath and struggling to walk. They took the effort and the compassion to secure a wheelchair and push this coworker to the emergency room, where it was determined that the coworker was suffering from heart failure. The coworker was admitted into the hospital where he remained for 5 days. While in the hospital the co-worker contacted human resources to file a verbal complaint. Once this coworker was released from the hospital and returned to his assigned duties, the original coworker who refused to provide medical attention, or at least seek medical attention set out to retaliate against this coworker for filing a complaint against him. As a result the coworker who was needing medical attention was forced to resign under duress. The coworker had only been employed for approximately 2 months. The co-worker continue to file a written complaint with the administration, indicating that the one who refused to assist him should be investigated. I agree in fact the coworker who failed to assist should be fired. Wiley Deane's is a very poor example of the quality of care dedicated by St Luke's medical staff, administration, board of directors, and the citizens of St Louis County.
The co-worker was later told that there was no merit to his complaint.
Keep in mind this is a hospital in all of its employees should be trained to assist anyone, patient, guest, or co-workers when experiencing a medical emergency, especially heart related.
What type of hospital is this? The coworker who refused to provide assistance, or even as much as get medical attention from a medical staff should not be allowed to work in a hospital. Should not be allowed to work in St Luke's. This is a poor example of an employee working in a hospital, where people lives or dependent on the medical staff at this hospital. This truly reveals a lack of compassion by the coworker who refused to assist another co-worker who was experiencing heart related issues.
This coworker suffering from heart related issues could have died from a heart attack and his fellow coworker had no regards for his well-being. And for St Luke's administration to inform the co-worker suffering from heart failure, that his complaint has no merit. They are in violation of Missouri law they have a sworn declaration to treat patients no matter race color creed and the coworker that refused to assist, even refuse to push this person to the emergency room, to save his life should no longer be employed at St Luke's hospital. And everyone that reads this review should voice their opinion.
And if you are a patient, or do any business with St Luke's hospital, you should reconsider your choice...
