Our family recently ventured off the beaten path during our trip to Pittsburgh to visit Playthings, Etc., and boy, are we glad we did! Despite its remote location, this hidden gem is an absolute delight and well worth the journey.
From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the unique exterior design resembling a stealth bomber, illuminated with an array of vibrant lights. Stepping inside, we were transported to a world of wonder, with aisles upon aisles of toys from all corners of the globe, catering to children of all ages and interests.
What truly sets Playthings, Etc. apart is the interactive experience it offers. With ample demo tables scattered throughout the store, our four kids were kept entertained for hours, testing out various toys and games before making their selections. The staff, meanwhile, were a delight to interact with, providing friendly and knowledgeable assistance whenever needed.
From the diverse selection of toys to the welcoming atmosphere and exceptional customer service, Playthings, Etc. exceeded our expectations in every way. Our family left with smiles on our faces and memories to cherish, making this visit an absolute highlight of our trip.

Once we walked in, we were greeted by several staff members who were extremely nice and helpful. The store is very overwhelming to take in with all kinds of toys from toddler to adult. Most of the toys I saw I have never seen in my life. I have been to the store before, but that was almost 20 years ago. It was nice taking my son to see the store and find some toys he picked out.
The store has some smaller toys right up front that ranged in price. Through the store, there is a toy for everyone from puzzles, rc cars, chess sets, Lego, art and crafts, etc.
I remember trying toys in the store years ago, and it's the same today. They even played a play area that was really neat. It was geared for younger kids, but it was nice to see what toys went over well and which ones did not. Throughout the store, you will find toys to try.
Prices are very reasonable. Some things on the high side but the toys would be difficult to find.
I highly recommend that if you visit the store, to set some time aside, it takes time to look.
It truly is a one of a kind toy store, and it is great for all ages. We traveled about 2 hours to visit the store and will...
Read moreThis place is amazing. We were staying near the factory outlets, and this was recommended to us as a neat place to visit. It's located off the beaten path in a very non-commercial area. If it weren't for the giant sign, we might have thought we were at the wrong place.
We ended up spending two hours here, and could have stayed much longer. Whoever does the buying here must love what they do, because the selection of unique, hands-on, retro, modern toys is extensive and eclectic.
They also encourage you to be hands-on with testers and samples of toys, which are everywhere. Staff was very helpful, walking around and showing people how to use the tester models that they seemed interested in, and playing with toys themselves. It was all done in a very playful manner; it felt not like they were trying to sell you toys, but that they wanted you to have fun with everything they had out.
We played, experimented, rode, smelled, and tinkered for two hours before leaving with an armful of toys. Probably the best experience I've ever had in a toy or hobby store. Highly...
