The store simply isn't what it used to be. They used to have absolutely incredible finds very commonly with lots of good choices scattered throughout. I remember always leaving the store very happy with what I found, and I saw many others with really cool stuff. Staff was okay-ish, not very friendly, but not a dealbreaker for me. Current Retail Rebel is a different story. Oftentimes, it feels like you are searching in vain for something truly worth a lot of money. Are there some good finds? Yes, there are still items that are worth a good deal, but I've felt it, and others I have talked to have also felt it; the item quality and average value has significantly decreased over time. I remember when saturdays used to be $5. Now it's double that at $10. Like I said, it's still doable to find good things at $10, but with the higher price and lower item value, it is very hard. If you are not able to get there early, it becomes even harder to find good things because people with a number pick through the boxes first and claim the already low number of somewhat valuable items. On top of this, sometimes they refuse to sell you some items for seemingly random reasons. This, to me, is the most frustrating part of this store. I tried to buy a smart watch one time, and they took it and told me they couldn't sell it to me. When I asked why, they were mumbling and trailed off into nowhere. I got no clear explanation, and no watch that day. I used to be able to buy similar items like that easily, but I guess things have changed for the worse. I've seen them once take away a gel blaster from a kid, and their reason was that it didn't have a box. I've seen them sell items without a box before?? Absolutely zero consistency with their rules, and they are quite obscure and nonsensical. Staff has also progressively become more irritable and rude. Their tone is always negative, and they don't treat you with a whole lot of respect. All in all, it still is possible to find value in this store especially on days besides Saturday, but my experience coming here over the last couple of years has just become tiring and quite honestly, disappointing. I don't really recommend...
Read moreSo I decided to go and check out this place as I've never been and I happened to be in Claycomo, MO and saw an ad on their storefront stating for $7.20 fill a bag with Christmas Items and food. So I go in to their store and I fill up 3 bags then proceed to go up to the cashier for checkout, this after having spent the better part of 3 hours digging through all these junk bins full of items. Many not complete or damaged so takes time to find a item worth getting. By the way these items are mainly Outlet mall or overstocked, discontinued, or imported without US dictation anywhere on packaging or instructions of the item as to be able to determine what the item you have is even exactly. That said,, I proceed to cashier only to then be told by the cashier and find out that the proportion for $7.20 fill- a - bag only applies to Christmas decor items and food items within the bins. I'm attaching the ad so you can tell me if it is misleading or not? I'm not saying that they are completely wrong here, but what I am saying is the AD wasnt well stated and misleading at best! So the long & short of my experience at Retail Rebel is I wasted 3 hours of my day and ended up with nothing (wasn't going to pay $4.00 per item in my bags). Overall it's kind of a neat place as they do have a lot and I mean alot of different items available. It is really unfortunate that my first and more then likely my last experience at Retail Rebel wasn't a good nor enjoyable one! In my opinion the add should have stated clearly Christmas themed/decor items and not as broad as to state Christmas items and food items. Afterall, aren't Christmas presents/gifts indeed considered by most to be Christmas items?
** Just a side note but in reading through all the reviews here I found it telling whether intentionall or not I don't know , but only the reviewers that gave 5 star reviews were awarded with whatever promotion that is given out by the store owner. Not a single bad review received this offering...Shady operation (misleading)...
Read moreI love this store, and have been a few times. The last time I went (a couple days ago) I didn't have such a great experience. I had my two year old with me in the shopping cart. He was standing, when the lady approached me and very politely asked to make sure he was sitting at all times. I said of course and I did my best to make sure he stayed sitting. About 30 minutes later, after making him sit multiple times, he was standing again and I along with my friend were trying to get him to sit. The security lady again approached, and told me if I couldn't get him to stay sitting I would have to leave the store. I looked at my friend and said "okay, let's go."
This experience left me embarrassed and furious. I understand that safety is a big concern for businesses, and I was doing my best. Toddlers have no impulse control. I cannot tell my toddler to sit and he stay sitting for the entirety of the trip. I CAN however, keep sitting him down when I realize he is standing. Which is what I was doing when I was told I would have to leave. I was there spending my money, I wasn't ready to cut my trip short, but I was going to get kicked out when he stood up next anyways so I had no choice. It was truly truly embarrassing to be harassed for something I have no control over.
I also noticed that I am not the first person to have this issue. There is another review from 4 months ago, and obviously management has not addressed this issue. If I do continue to have this issue then I will no longer be able to visit the store, and I highly recommend anyone with small children to save theirselves the embarrassment of...
