Welcome to the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, where the only thing more unexpected than your flight delay is the joy of spending time here! Seriously, this airport has all the charm of your grandma's living room â if your grandma was also a huge fan of oversized murals and a gift shop that could rival a flea market.
From the moment I walked in, I felt like I was on a quirky game show called "Where's My Gate?" Spoiler alert: It's always the one furthest away! But donât worry; you'll get your cardio in just strolling past the many food options, each vying for your attention like slightly desperate relatives at a family reunion.
Speaking of food, if you love airport cuisine, then the Cleveland airport does not disappoint! You can grab a burger thatâs larger than your carry-on or a delicately crafted artisanal sandwich. Honestly, my sandwich had more layers than a soap opera plot twist. And donât even get me started on the coffee â I fully expect to take off like a plane after drinking just one cup!
The people-watching here is legendary. You can see business travelers deep in âimportantâ phone calls, families trying to wrangle their kids, and a surprising number of people wearing sweatpants and flip-flops, as if theyâre preparing for a fashion show on the runway...or maybe just comfortable travel.
Letâs not overlook the art installations that make you question whether you entered an airport or a contemporary art museum. There's a giant moving sculpture that has been known to confuse more than a few visitors. Is it avant-garde? Is it a malfunctioning UFO? Who knows! But itâs a delightful distraction while you're waiting for your flight.
In short, if you're ever stuck in Cleveland airport, consider it less of a hassle and more of an adventure. Who knew layovers could be so entertaining? Just make sure you take a few selfies with the giant sculptures and the gift shop's vast array of T-shirts before you leave. You may just find a new appreciation for the phrase, âItâs not the destination, itâs the journey.â
Bravo, Cleveland Hopkins International Airport! Youâre like the quirky uncle of airports â unexpected, a little chaotic, but always gives you a...
Read moreOne airline stewardess changed my whole view of Cleveland Hopkins International Airport for the better!
As a single mother of 2 young kiddos, I dread flying. The double stroller and car seat has to be checked at the gate because without it I donât know how weâd make it through the airport. With that being said breaking everything down while boarding is a lot to do by myself. Youâd think the employees would lend a hand & they donât.
My girls and I go on a vacation every year so Iâm no stranger to bag policy, boarding time etc. we always getting there much earlier to allot for the times it takes to break everything down. So this time around I got there 2 hours before as I usually do already virtually checked in but a frontier employee spotted our personal bags and demanded I take them out to be measured before we got through security.. I know my bags were the right size and Iâm also entitled to a diaper bag while traveling with an infant. This was upsetting because she saw I had the baby in the stroller my eldest sleeping but no she didnât care. Needless to say leaving out of CHIA this time wasnât the best experience.
Coming back however made up for it.
Once again I find myself breaking everything down while employees pass me by and donât even give a second look. When we were getting off the plane to head home one of the airline stewardesses insisted on not only helping me but walking with us all the way to pick up to ensure I didnât have to struggle. We came in on a late flight so as you can imagine, I was exhausted. But this woman was so kind and helpful she turned my whole day and opinion of the airlines employees around. Iâm so thankful that there are still kind people like her in the world.
Aside from this personable encounter with a frontier employee; the airport overall is nice. Easy to navigate and lots of food selections. They decorate the halls during holiday seasons to...
Read moreI fly into and out of this Airport a lot. My location history said 120 times in the last 10 years. It's not a terrible airport but it's not great either. If you go here a lot in a short period of time you will see the same things that are broken NEVER get fixed. Nobody at this airport cares about fixing anything... It's a bad look. I park in the Orange lot each time and it's supposed to have 3 exit lanes but my last 4 trips here in 6 weeks only the center exit lane worked. Then when the receipt prints out it is missing half the information on the receipt which causes me grief when I try to get reimbursed. Then the orange lot itself all these idiots park at the end of the row where there is not actually a spot creating dangerous and tight maneuvering in the lot. Maybe start booting these idiots to pay fines to get that $17/day cost down. They used to put notes on the windshields of these cars but now they don't even do that. Where does all the money this lot generates go to??? In the corner of the lot by the Sheraton I don't know what they did but they blockaded off like 100 spots that can't be used for long term parking just temporary parking and every time there is 1 maybe two cars using it. Walking from orange lot to terminal the big long people mover has been in broken disrepair for months. The escalator down into ticketing has been broken for months also you have to take elevator or stairs. If you have a 6AM flight security is not gonna open until 4:00 to 4:15 so don't bother getting there earlier. The Southwest terminals in B concourse don't even have electronic signs, it's all done by hand. The D concourse has been closed forever just wasting away, I don't know why they can't bring in more flights to use that again. Airport is usually busy but it is spread out enough that it's never...
