Cute place to stop and pee while traveling. Beautiful, maintained landscaping. They take travelers’ recycling... like if you’ve drank a couple bottles of water on your way to the beach. They have a smoking ash tray thing outside. Vending machines for drinks and snacks. Bathrooms have plenty of space and are clean. Automatic sinks, push liquid soap, and automatic flushes. Typical stalls. No toilet lids. Two different sections of each; men’s and women’s restrooms, so pay attention, and go into either of the correct sections of your restroom. Pet friendly stop, but don’t take pets into the building.

This Visitor Center is perfectly located headed into the Outer Banks from the south. Very clean and nicely landscaped. Numerous shaded areas with chairs overlooking the water. The center houses a large amount of local high quality craft items, maps, art work and a wide array of brochures covering site seeing, fishing, water sports, restaurants and shopping. The two lady attendants were very friendly and helpful and great ambassadors. Restrooms were very clean. Informative outbuilding houses the Pocosin Lakes Wildlife Refuge exhibit describing the area wildlife, habitats and protective efforts.

We stopped here on our way to OBX, and again on our way back! Very friendly and helpful staff both time. We walked the entire boardwalk through the woods along the river. There were several other people there too - walking and fishing - so it felt pretty safe. Loved looking at the plants and animal wildlife.

I've stopped here numerous time. They always have clean and nice bathrooms. The soda and snacks machines are iffy. They work something and then they don't. The staff is friendly. The visitor center is amazing even though it's small. It's full of good information and the lady that is there is very nice and knowledgeable of the area. They also have a little museum to the left. It is very cute, they do have a store and...
