I hired Able Roof in August 2022 based on a recommendation from my parents who had their entire roof and gutters replaced by Able Roof. They had a great experience and highly recommended the company. I hired Able to replace two gutters with 6-inch gutters, two downspouts, one piece of fascia, and a 7 foot piece of soffit on the backside of my house. What was supposed to be a half day job turned into a horrible project experience which was not fully completed for 3 months.
Once the third party gutter crew was finished with their work after about 4-5 hours, they left the house without notifying me that they were finished. Therefore, I did not have a chance to inspect their work before they left. While they were still onsite, I informed them that I had a six-year-old child and many other neighborhood children played at our house everyday in the yard and I would like them to clean up the construction debris once they were finished.
This did not happen. After the crew had left, I went out into the yard and found the following: a seven foot piece of soffit with rusty nails sticking out of it in the flower bed in the backyard, which had been dropped from such a height that it snapped all of the flowers in the flowerbed in half, numerous pieces of cut downspout, sharp pieces of cut metal from the new and old gutters, metal shavings on the deck and on both roofs (upper and lower), between 60 and 70 rusty and new sheet metal screws, nails, and other sharp objects in the grass in both the front and backyard, and empty soda cans on the deck and in the front yard. I have attached pictures of the 7 foot piece of soffit left in the backyard and some of the construction debris left in the yard to this review.
It took me approximately 4-5 hours of walking around the yard over 4 days time with a magnetic wand to collect all of the sharp metal objects left in the grass. As a comparison, my next-door neighbor had his entire roof and gutters replaced while my 3-month experience with Able Roof was occurring, and he found 4 total nails/screws in his yard after the company had completed their work. I also had to get onto the roof with a Shop Vac to clean up the metal shavings, sheet metal screws, and other debris which was left on both roofs.
In addition to all the construction debris left all over the yard and on the roofs, the lower roof on the screened-in porch had approximately 20 gashes in the rolled shingle which appeared after the company was finished. The gashes were only on the part of the roof that was directly below the upper roof where the crew was replacing the gutter. I have attached pictures of the gashes in the rolled shingle to this review. Also, the lower gutter on the screened-in porch now leaked between the gutter and the fascia, which was not a problem prior to Able Roof coming to the house, and there was a large gap left in the soffit area of the upper roof where the new piece of soffit did not line up against the fascia.
The workmanship, attention to detail, and overall quality performed by the Able Roof gutter crew was terrible. They were so sloppy and lackadaisical that they left their empty soda cans in the yard, ridiculous. Over the course of the next three months I worked with the company (project consultant, project manager, production manager) to get the myriad issues resolved. This was not an easy process, there were many times I would not receive a call back when a call back was promised (or a reply text). There were late arrivals to fix issues, no-shows, and numerous communication issues to get the project completed adequately and the damage caused by Able Roof fixed.
I would never recommend this company to anyone and am disheartened by the terrible quality of work that I received knowing that others have had better experiences than I. Able is capable of providing better workmanship, quality, and professionalism, but that was definitely not the Able that I experienced. I am highly...
Read moreWe had leaks in our family room. We called Able based on their high ratings. I took the estimator into the room with the leaks, pointed out the damage, and said, “this is what we need to fix.” He said we needed a new roof, which we purchased. He also tried to upsell us gutters, which we passed on. A year later, we had leaks again. We called Able, they sent someone out who said as soon as he looked at the ceiling that it wasn’t a warranty issue because the skylights were leaking and we didn’t replace those. The original estimator never mentioned the skylights. If that’s what we needed to fix the problem, we would have done it! I called Able again several times and each time they sent out an estimator who said the same thing—not a warranty issue because it was the skylights. I knew it wasn’t a warranty issue; that wasn’t the problem. The problem is that their estimator never said that we needed to replace the skylights to fix the leaks and instead, said we needed a $9000 roof instead of $3000 skylights. Even at the time, I was skeptical because the old roof was only about 10 years old, and we didn’t have any problems anywhere else. Also, the roof on the leaky room isn’t attached to the main roof since it’s at a different level. But I assumed that he knew what he was doing, since that’s his job and Able was supposed to be a good company. Able never acknowledged that their estimator was wrong. Their solution was to send me an estimate for over $3000 dollars to replace the skylights. Eventually, they offered me a $500 discount, which really didn’t satisfy me. I wasn’t asking them to do it for free; that would have unreasonable. But I think they could have done better than what was less than a 15% discount, all things considered. I might actually have accepted their offer if they had ever apologized and admitted their estimator was wrong, but they never took any responsibility for the situation. I completely lost faith in the company because they would not even own their mistake. I finally gave up on themu and had someone else replace the skylights. Frankly, I preferred to spend the money with someone else than continue to try to work with Able. I will never do business with them again, nor would I...
Read moreWe discovered a leak and called Able because several family members had recommended their work.
There were two individuals who came to look at things. One was the sales person and the other was training to work in Cleveland.
They inspected things and told us that the room was good. It was our stucco that was leaking. But good news. They have someone who does great stucco work.
They gave us a price of $4,000 for the repair. When my wife and I asked how confident they were that it would address the issue, they said “very confident.”
Against my instincts, we agreed to what we understood the sales person said, however in the day of the work it became apparent that our understanding of the scope of work and what was written in the contract were vastly different. From the discussion we believed that the entire roofline area would be replaced.
The workers showed up and began tearing out things. A while later their “boss” showed up and I began to question why they had stopped tearing out and were not going further with the repair. He said that wasn’t in their scope. He show me a photo and drawing from Able with the repair area marked. It was essentially a 4’x3’ area.
I figured well, if the repair works, fine.
After further discussion the stucco person however, he told me the repair wouldn’t work long term and that our best option was to tear off and replace the stucco on the entire wall.
The crew did their work and left. They were here 3 hours. For $4,000.
Able quoted the stucco replacement at $26,000. Painting was another $3,200.
I laughed at them and said I was going to explore other quotes.
Two other stucco companies came out and quoted $16,200 and $17,900 for the rip and replacement of the stucco and painters we used in the past quoted $1,400 for painting.
We ended up going with a tear off and replacement with cement siding for $8,000 all in.
So Able’s “repair” cost half of the complete removal and replacement with another product.
Lesson learned. I tried to contact the sales person to express my disappointment but he never responded to my text. So I leave this review as a word of...
